"No, Mommy, I don't want to go to school today..." Shotaro said, getting up in a dizzy daze.

Masha blinked, and looked up at the doctor.

"Eh? Is... Is that what we're here to do, Doctor-san?" she asked.

Recette, who was already smiling again, nodded. "The big... um... furry person is right, this is a shop! I run it, so I can pay off my debt!"

Masha was silent. She'd never heard anything like that before...

"... Um... what's... what's she saying?"

"Sly Cooper." Sly said with a tip of his hat. "What kind of debt are we talking about?"

"Oh, it's nice to meet you. I'm used to people entering through the front door, but I guess customers falling from my cieling is okay, too," Recette said cheerfully. "And... well, my father left me with a debt, and if I don't pay it off, I'll be kicked out of my house... but this shop is helping a lot!"

After a moment's pause, she realized what the Doctor had said.

"She can't understand me?" Recette looked and Masha, who looked straight back. Recette attempted to speak more slowly. "Oh, hello!"

Masha shook her head.

"I don't understand, what do those words mean? All the sounds are different," she said, looking away from Recette to the Doctor.

Recette looked confused, as well. "I don't understand her, either..."

Fluttershy lay on the floor of the store somewhere in between the petfood and the weaponry, fainting from her own terror after being sucked through the portal*

. The pony got up, her legs shaking under her, her head still feeling sore from that hit to her head. She wobbled out to the rest of the group.

"Owie....." the pony said. "My head hurts......" She the saw Recette talking to some of the others. "Oh, I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything," she apologized, "I'll just go by the corner - OW!" She put her hoof up to her forehead. The was a moderately nasty bruise on the spot where the rock hit. Though it wasn't bleeding it was rather obvious....

“Your champion has been taken once again, Farore. And yet for Time to flow as it should, he must be here. We must take him back.”

The one in green sighed. “I have observed it, sister. And yet, there is nothing we can do... We have no power there. It is not our place to interfere. My Hero must remain in that place, for the time being, it seems.”

“And what will we do with him gone? Shall the Balance which We have so carefully instilled come to nothing?”

There was silence, as both deities regarded each other coldly.

Then the final one, a female wreathed in blue light, spoke up.

“You are forgetting something, sisters. They require a champion, do they not?”

“Let us give them one. Send the one who restores the light. His mission is complete. He will replace the Hero of Time.”

After a moment of contemplation, the other two nodded in agreement at her words.

“It shall be as you say, sister.”

“Send the Hero of Light in his stead. Bring him home.”

“Very well.”

“Come home, my Hero. Have rest.”

And then he was gone.

And a young man clothed in green stumbled out. It was strange, but he seemed like an exact analogue, barring his brown hair and slightly different facial features...

Of Link.

He looked up, surprise dawning over his features. “What? Where – where am I? And who are you?”

The Doctor blinks. "Link? I was wondering where you went! You look... older?"

"Eh? Aren't you with us? Oh... Don't tell me you have amnesia! That's like the most overused cliche in the book!" Shotaro said to Link

Link? This guy... he knows my name! But how? He looks like a human... but what in the world is he wearing? And who are these other people?

The young man looked rather confused.

"You... know me?"

"I.. can't really say the same for you, unfortunately...."

"Um... can you tell me where I am?"

As he stood up and began to look around the shop, wonder and quite a few questions in his eyes, the others might notice that his hair was light brown, if nothing else, and that the Master Sword was safely in the sheath on his back.

And that he was wearing pants, not leggings. Among other things.

The Doctor looks depressed. "You don't remember me? The Nomads? Lambda? Rey Mystrio? Any of it?"

Nomads? Lambda? Ray... Mysterious?

He shook his head, even more perplexed.

"I - I'm sorry. You must have me confused with someone else."

But they do remember me... or someone like me, at least...

Then it all clicked into place, and his eyes widened in realization.

Of course! I'm wearing the clothes of the Legendary Hero... they must have heard of the legend, too!

He looked up, the confusion in his eyes slowly dimming.

"You... haven't heard of the Legendary Hero, by any chance, have you?"

"Yes. I've heard of you. You seriously don't remember?"

The Doctor looks heartbroken. "Tell me. What happened to the Hero?"

"There are millions of people who go by that name. Half of those are liars." Shotaro said.

The sadness in the Doctor's eyes seemed to take Link by surprise.

Hmm... looks like he did know the Hero... somehow.

"He... I don't really know. He saved my land, the land of Hyrule, a long time ago, from the King of Evil, Ganondorf. And he was a Hero, despite what some people," and here he looked at Shotaro, "might think."

"Then he... well, disappeared. I have his clothes. The Light Spirit who gave them to me said that they were the mark of a Hero..."

He looked rather thoughtful.

"I might have met him, several times... as a spirit warrior. He taught me the ways of the blade, his Hidden Skills - he said that his greatest regret was not being able to pass on his ways to his descendants..."

"He called me his son. His descendant."

It was all rather vague, actually. He realized that he had never really given much thought to the matter... To him, the Hero was some far-off figure whose legacy he had had to fulfill. Not a person, but a mythic icon. He continued to speak, putting off his contemplative mood for the moment.

"Or, he might not have been the Legendary Hero at all. I'm not actually sure... I've never really thought about it."

“But you still haven't answered my question. Where am I, and who are you?”

The sadness doesn't leave his tone. At least he could find love. "I'm the Doctor. Did the hero... your father mention Nomads at all?"

Shotaro removed his Gaia Memory. "I'm Hidari Shotaro." Shotaro said as he returned to civilian clothes.

Link turned to the Doctor, regarding him eye-to- eye for the first time.

"Well, like I said, the Shade may or may not have been the Hero... and even if he was linked to me by blood, he would have to be one of my distant ancestors. He lived hundreds of years before my time.”

"Ok. Doctor, Hidari Shotaro. It seems you know my name already..."

"But anyway, I'm Link. Link of Ordon. Nice to meet you."

He extended a hand to both of them in turn.

“You still haven't fully answered my question, though. Where am I? And how did you know the Hero?”

"You're in a shop. Of a girl named Recette. She's in debt. We need to help. We know of you because we met the Legendary Hero. He was with us not even 10 minutes ago."

The Doctor shakes his hand. I shouldn't be a downer. I should keep them happy.

Shotaro shook Link's hand. "Ask Hakase-sensei, over here. He knows your ancestor more than me." Shotaro said.

"You... met the Legendary Hero?"

"So you did know him."

"Tell me. What was he like? The legends say he had incredible courage - and that no evil could stand against him."

"Did he?"

"And I'm willing to help, though most of the experience I've had with shops is through doing business with them... So I might not be that useful." He smiled.
