How narrowed down should this be?: Dispense With The Pleasantries

This trope proposal in YKTTW reminded me of my own Dispense with the Pleasantries trope, except that mine applied to two things; flattery AND small talk; partly because there's so much overlap between the two. I can't even tell which the Trope Namer is about, and I'm inclined to guess "both."

In hindsight, I'm wondering if that might merit a split, or at least reconsideration of how narrowed down Dispense with the Pleasantries should be.

Bumping because this should be addressed before that YKTTW is launched. If this could be split into two tropes, one about flattery and one about small talk, then the latter would cover that YKTTW's subject.

I think the clearer distinction between Dispense with the Pleasantries and the YKTTW trope Hates Small Talk is that the second one is a character trope while the first is a plot one.

I feel like there are characters who Dispense with the Pleasantries who also hate small talk in general, but there are also characters who say to Dispense with the Pleasantries in certain situations but not others. Thus, I think the two tropes are unique enough from each other as they are.

I don't think a split is warranted here. "A character who habitually does X" is The Same But More Specific of X and not something we really need. The current incarnation is better anyway because character tropes have historically been more prone to X Just X-type examples; having it be an event instead of a character trait should encourage editors to expound more fully on the circumstances (indeed, many of the examples currently on Dispense with the Pleasantries include quoted excerpts of the trope occurring).

I would discard the YKTTW.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

After some thought, I have to agree with Louie W.

There are also situations where Hates Small Talk would be much more descriptive than Dispense with the Pleasantries. A good example would be the mention of Germans hating small talk on Germanic Efficiency (which I added, amittedly). Dispense with the Pleasantries would seem odd if used as a link there, while Hates Small Talk would be much more appropriate a link.

Edit: I will go along with whatever conclusions this discussion comes to, obviously.

I agree that there's a big difference between pleasantries like "hello, how are you, Bob, Tom, meet George, George, meet Bob and Tom" and the like and someone who gets upset when you start discussing your love life, your co-worker's love life, or cuisine while you're supposed to be dissecting a corpse (to use an example I just added to the Hates Small Talk YKTTW). Someone who hates small talk may have no problem at all with casual pleasantries like greetings or farewells or brief words of appreciation.

Bump as my YKTTW is directly tied to this discussion, and I want to make sure nothing needs to be done that might affect its launch. If there's no reason not to lainch, I'll go forward in 24 hours.

AKA I'm covering my bases here.
