This is the real world name for this particular kind of logical fallacy. There's pretty much no way it's getting renamed, as that would put this site out of sync with the rest of the world at large for terminology.
TV Tropes didn't name it, and the name is way too widespread to seriously consider changing it.
(And I think you're being overly sensitive. I can't imagine anybody believes the fallacy was named that because Scotsmen are unusually prone to it.)
I'm a Scot who isn't offended by this trope name, for a counterbalance.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.Nthing keep. This is absolutely a pre-existing term and it is the generally recognized term for this particular logical fallacy. It is not an insult toward the Scottish people and it takes quite a stretch of the imagination to see how it could be taken as such.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"We have a lot of disputes over whether "pre-existing term in some corner of some fandom" trumps apparent lack of clarity. However, "pre-existing term used by everyone familiar with the concept" certainly trumps apparent lack of clarity.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toI could see your point considering that this trope is used heavily when it comes to Misplaced Nationalism and the like. Although we haven't had such a problem with this I should probably put a No Real Life Examples Please disclaimer just in case. That said, I highly doubt it will be renamed considering that, as the others have said, the term is more known for being named as such.

Okay I'll be honest here, I have a personal interest in this trope name. I am Scottish, so I may very well be being over sensitive, but I find the trope name quite insulting. It is also not terribly clear, requiring you to read the description to find out what it means. I propose a rename to something that is clearer and does no single out any particular country or national identity.
