Some examples are more along the lines of "misplaced": Disproportionate Retribution

I created Misplaced Retribution as a trope a while ago, and since then pretty much forgot I had it until feeling reminded of it when commenting to the Real Women Have Curves YKTTW. I've since looked at some of the Disproportionate Retribution examples list, and couldn't help but notice that some of them belong also (if not more so) on Misplaced Retribution; the Beauty and the Beast and Incredibles examples come to mind. I'm going to leave them there for now, though, just as examples of what I'm talking about.

Perhaps we can get different users to scan different sections for such examples?

Misplaced Retribution needs to be spread around the wiki so people actually know it exists.

I suppose there could be some overlap. Like someone blaming someone who had a very small role in something and then making their life an utter hell.

[up] I don't recall whether I remembered to cross-wick it or not, but I thought that after launching M.R I mentioned it in D.R's description; it turns out that either I didn't mention it, or it got edited out. Where in D.R's description should a mention of M.R go?

"Compare with Misplaced Retribution, where the punishment is inflicted on the wrong person" or something like that.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
