I asked in the Pokemon thread so I will ask here too, to encourage more discussion: Which anime is better as of NOW, Digimon or Pokemon.

Ehhhh. While I think reception for Applimon was overall positive, it wasnt quite Digimon's usual fare. Tri was divisive at best. I cant say with Pokemon. Sun/Moon was a different animal. I didnt like it, but it wasnt for me. It was aimed squarely at the younger demo.

Tri didn't take flagrant inspiration from Yokai Watch and look how that turned out

I don't have much to say about Pokémon because I've stopped watching it years ago. Of course, once I've heard Ash finally managed to win an official league I admit I pondered if it was worth watching his journey through the victorious region. Just glancing at the new art style was enough to make me scrap that idea.

The Digimon anime had its own share of problems with Tri. I think it started well, but I lost most of my interest in the project after watching the 4th movie. I feel like they didn't know how to wrap up all the plot points and its second half was less than satisfactory. On the bright side, Appmon turned out to be a much needed escape route for the fans that lost interest in the Tri movies.

Honestly, I have little to no interest in the upcoming Adventure movie. The ending of Tri was such a trainwreck I don't think I have much interest left in Tai's universe anymore. To be honest, the franchise would draw much more of my attention if they kept making brand new stories like Appmon.

I really liked Appmon. Yeah they changed some stuff around, but honestly, it wasn't too much of a deal.

• They simplified the evolutions to just the Rookie/Champion/Ultimate/Mega that most of the series uses.
• All 5 main characters got developed and all their partners reached their final forms.
• While using CGI...okay they didn't let any of Dokamon's forms get an awesome fight scene, anytime they bothered like with Do Gatchmon through Gaiamon, all of Hackmon and Offmon's forms, they were pretty good.
• The villains, despite about a third of them not getting much to do overall, were still pretty fun an interesting. We basically had the main villain, the twist traitor, an elite four, an early sub group of bosses, and surprise threats.
• it's not perfect, Ai and Watson didn't get much to do, Fakemon and Beautymon deserved longer final batles instead of just one shot KOS, etc, but it was overall fun.
• Plus, that Pokemon Go jab episode was hilarious.

Honestly out of all seven seasons Appmon is my favorite. Yeah it's different from what came before it and the plot isn't the most unique but it's easily the best written season of the bunch, the fights are good, and the characters are just that great. It really deserves more praise than it gets.

Ai at least got to be part of the group, even if only on the periphery. I'm not even sure why Watson was even a character. I suspect he was going to be the Kazu or Kenta to Ai's Juri, but both those concepts got dropped eventually.

Oh yeah, good point. Though I feel bad for Ai's actress since Yuujin took over as Haru's love interest. Her and Haru are cute together though.

I admit though, the shift in focus to Yujin was something I didn't expect for a kids show....

...even if it promotes the downplaying of female characters in Shonen, especially merchandise driven shonen.

Writers and executives are so attached to their belief that boys don't want to see girls in their shonen shows, and it irks me.

At least Eri was good and got more to do. Though yeah, a 1 in 5 ratio ain't great, and this is from someone who likes Frontier!

And you even get blink and you miss it moments where one of her fellow idols show up on social media dating another girl.

Oh yeah, I remember that. That was sneaky cool of the writers to put that in.

It actually looks really good, I hope to see its profile soon.

I wish they uploaded again, they have so many cool facts about the show.

• Also, with regards to Digimon, anyone thinks Toei and Bandai have not been pulling their best foot forward with the franchise in the west?

FWIW Bamco actually seems genuine in wanting to make a greater effort with their products.

I wonder if that thing could beat Myotismon and avenge the senseless murder of that one Pumpkinmon. Keep in mind Myotismon is absurd for an Ultimate; I could see it being a pretty even fight.

At the very least, it could get a chance to run away. Dunno what the chances Noble Pumpkinmon could have against basically a Mega.

Okay yeah, the games.

• Toei..like what the heck. It is the PERFECT time for the west to get something like Digimon Applimonsters, Tri, polarizing as it is at least came over, but they need to fix the writing with Kizuna, I don't think there's any attempts for merchanding other than the games, which ironically thanks to Pokemon S/S debates is making people looking forward to the next Digimon game coming soon. And we're still overrelying on Adventure, do something with the Tamer, Frontier, Saver, and Xros kids.

NoblePumpkinmon IS a Mega, hence my curiosity as to how he'd do against a Mega-tier Ultimate.
