Goku VS Superman, Toph VS Gaara, Iron Man VS Lex Luthor, and Ben 10 VS Green Lantern.

This one. So much this one. Even the winners were salty about this one, on account of that whole "Superman is INFINITY STRONG" thing.

IIRC, it was something about Superman lifting a book of infinite pages. The Death Battle team calculated that it weighed infinite weight. Thus, for Superman to lift infinite weight, he must be infinitely strong. Or something to that effect.

This was back before the season 3 rules change, so things were a lot less serious and more focused on just maximizing how powerful a character could be presented.

I remember Pokemon vs Digimon was a bit vitriolic because they killed a kid in it. Don't think anyone cares anymore though.

Also there was Yang vs Tifa, which started the whole "Screwattack/Death Battle are a bunch of shills" debacle.

What was wrong with Yang vs. Tifa? Like, anything legitimately wrong and not, from what I can infer, baseless accusations of "they made Tifa lose so Yang can look cool"?

Speaking from a neutral standpoint:

The episode was released close to Volume 3, so people accused it of being less of a standard "vs battle animation" and more of a promotion. Also the feat where Yang was launched into a pillar was mocked, and how Yang acted during the fight wasn't well-recieved.

That's what I remember, at least.

Goku vs. Superman, definitely. The idea of making Goku lose in 2012 was tantamount to blasphemy.

Gaara vs. Toph for similar reasons.

Ben 10 vs. Green Lantern because of one guy and his fanbase and the refusal to accept that DC is stupid powerful.

As for Tony vs. Lex, well...not from an audience perspective. Iron Man vs. Lex has 178K likes to 6.5K dislikes.

Starscream vs. Rainbow Dash has 70K likes to 14K dislikes.

Even Sasuke vs. Hiei has 69K likes to 16K dislikes.

I'd like to add in

• Kirby vs. Buu for reasons similar to Goku vs. Superman and Gaara vs. Toph.
• Goku vs. Superman 2 for just seemingly rubbing salt in the wound.
• Peach vs. Zelda for being dumb, even when it came out, the explanation for why Peach won made no sense then and it still doesn't now.
• Lara vs. Nathan, because are VERY mad at how the fight ended due to "bad luck".
• Tracer vs. Scout for how they didn't seem to faithfully represent Scout in both analysis or fight animation.

Oh right, how could I forget Ganon VS Bowser?

Most of Season 3 was a wash, really.

Season 3 was carried by the Torrian fights, all of which were good at least animation-wise, even if the results for the worst one (Tracer vs. Scout) was questionable at best.

All the other fights ranged from terrible (Bowser vs. Ganon, Mewtwo vs. Shadow) to forgettable (I didn't even remember Amy vs. Ramona was a fight until I looked it up)

IIRC the lower quality of Season 3's sprite-based episodes came from OMM splitting and most of the animators leaving for it. DBX was originally a tryout for new animators, which is why most of the first season was bad.

Didn't the animator for Mewtwo vs. Shadow screw them over by deliberately half-@$$ing the animation or something?

Which battle surprised you with the outcome? (In the sense that it was unexpected. May or may not be bs)

Mine would be Raiden vs Wolverine because i personally never expected Raiden to win even though the Murasama Blade was able to cut through strong stuff. I thought Wolverine would just tank everything and win

Sasuke vs. Hiei is definitely the most recent shock for me. Actually, probably the biggest too.

I second Sasuke VS Hiei.

Lucy vs Carnage

Man. Both of those.

But Sasuke vs Hiei. That one caught me off guard.

My mind's still trying to wrap itself around "infinite strength" because while I may be bad at math, the last time I checked, infinity is a concept? Like, by it's very definition, it's not measurable. It's not finite. There is no limit to it. I think it's actually goddamn impossible.

So giving a person "infinite strength" strikes me as the height of absurdity. Superman is hella strong but infinitely strong? The hell?
