Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Mc Cain will miss the tax vote, as he is traveling home, to recover from chemotherapy side effects.

And not exactly politics, but the world's busiest airtport (Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson) has been completely crippled due to a power failure.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.@everyone acting dumbfounded at Pai's idiocy.
Just take a look at the guy who hired him. That should be self explanatory. Hint. He has the same color as the fruit that gives vitamin C.

Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Let's not insult fruit... which are at least healthy.

Unless they rotted
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.x4 Didn't Obama actually hire him? And Trump just promoted him?

Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted. That might have been it.
...God, Trump is so infuriating that I thought he was the one who got Pai on board because dumb minds think alike.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Well, Trump raised him to a position of (greater) power, so you're not wrong.
Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted.Technically, Mitch Mc Connell is the one responsible for this, as he was the one who asked Obama to make Ajit a FCC member. Rupert Murdoch also had involvement in this, he was the one who told Trump to make Ajit the FCC chairman.

The makeup of the FCC has to be bipartisan.
4 from the Dems, 4 from the Republicans. The President appoints the chairman.
Obama had to put him in.
Oh really when?To be fair, I didn't know that it had to be exactly bipartisan. So Obama had no choice?
Point remains, Trump made him the actual chairman, right?
Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted.Under Rupert Murdoch's request.
Mc Cain is heading home. Not gonna vote on the tax bill.

I found an article that I think is quite relevant to recent discussions, Robert Mueller just pulled an ace from his sleeve, and Donald Trump's team just flinched.
This is why I'm not excessively worried, Mueller is a professional and he knows exactly what Donald Trump can and can't do. So as far as I'm concerned the idea that Trump could just have him fired and end the investigation is not something that's in anyway realistic (as much as I'm sure that Trump wishes it were).
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -Hylarn... now I kind of hope Trump does fire him, so he'll bring the whole gang down;
Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted. As I said, does anyone really think that Mueller would do anything that could possibly jeporize his position? He's too good for that.

Why? The investigation should be kept going as long as it needs to in order to gather information on everything.
Avatar SourceBut if there's a risk it's going to get shut down and all of it buried, what's been gathered is moot unless it's actually used.

Agreed, if Mueller has enough to bring down the whole gang then I want him to have even more time to gather information to cause the maximum damage.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnFull, watertight cases so solid the GOP will be crucified at the polls if they don't act on it in Congress.
"You can reply to this Message!"Keep in mind, if Mueller really is fired...it doesn’t do anything about the impending court cases. They’re still happening. Everything set in motion still happens. Mueller is the instigator of most of the stuff that will happen relating to the investigation, but him being gone wouldn’t stop anything that’s already set into motion. He isn’t doing everything personally.
I’m guessing some of the more experienced members of the Cabinet are screaming at Trump to not try and fire Mueller. It wouldn’t surprise me if Bannon was telling him the same thing too, with the assumption that they can derail the investigation in court or something like that. Because as I’ve said before, Bannon is a terrible strategist who doesn’t actually understand how these things work. And Trump likes him way too much.

Not Three Laws compliant.Trump's legal team is hilariously out of their league. They are probably used to intimidating and shutting up people who accuse Trump of sexual harassment or small-time contractors. Like their boss, they are bullies who don't fare well against someone who can actually fight back.
Disgusted, but not surprisedSo, what you are saying is that Trump's lawyers are going to find themselves stripped of attorney-client privilege?
How did you get that from what anyone said? No, they just mean that Trump's team has no idea what to do with this caliber of legal cases. Incompetence aside, they aren't used to dealing with Federal cases of this level. I don't doubt that in cases previous to all of this they were very good, this is just a very different playing field than what they were trained for and it's showing.
Or the interns. Or using the "you should volunteer at a school" resolution to get close to children.
