Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He's an autocrat wannabe. He wants to be a dictator, a fascist, a king, a god...but he's just Trump.
He's a careless lazy moron...but he's also got the power of the presidency and the nuclear football. Just because something is very silly doesn't mean it's not dangerous.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThat's a seriously spineless move by Keurig to apologize like that. Hell, I'm pretty sure all those belligerent arseholes who smashed their Keurigs in a gross misunderstanding of boycott are gonna be buying a new one come Black Friday.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Accepting that Russia is not our friend is not McCarthyism.
And in turn, I wont be buying from them if I ever need a cofee maker.
I'm sticking with Nescafe.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI have one, but considering that my family bought it like half a decade ago, it's with me and I don't drink coffee, I'll hold onto it as a water heater. The water temperature is perfect for steeping black tea, so it's not like the company's gonna get any more of my money than what they already have.

Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Yeah, I'm at least 99% Chinese and I still think the USA needs to take the threats posed by the current Russian and Chinese governments more seriously.
Maybe someday they will be friends and allies. But not as long as both are being run by people who have a Zero Sum Game mindset.
Disgusted, but not surprisedSo Keurig is run by a bunch of weaklings after all.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyThere is a reasonable middle ground between trusting hostile foreign autocracies out to harm you, and going on a witch hunt against supposed subversives and anyone with the "wrong" last name.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. It's run by people who think their conservative consumers are more important than taking a stand against pedophilia apologia. So yeah, Keurig is a Dirty Coward.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWell with that move they’ve managed to piss everyone off, the pro-pedophile crowd won’t forgive them for removing advertising on pro-pedophile programs, while the anti-pedophile side won’t forgive them for acting like it’s not a good thing to take sides against pedophiles.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran@Rational: Literally mentioning HUAC by name and implying it should come back makes it patently obvious which side of that line you fall on.
@Ramieh: I'm not so sure about that. There are definitely posters here who fit that particular bill.
Kindly refrain from accusing other posters of being Mc Carthyists. Was calling us Nazi collaborateurs not bad enough?
Disgusted, but not surprisedKeurig? Like the coffee makers?
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Yes, the coffee maker.
Disgusted, but not surprisedTo be fair, Capsase is right that the HUAC coming back was brought up in a neutral-to-positive way, so I can understand being nervous about that.
1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVThe very same. They pulled advertising from Hannity due to his support of Pedophile Moore, and that pissed off everyone with enough of a defective moral compass to still side with Moore (to the point that breaking Keurig coffee-makers has gone viral). Now they're backpedaling and pissing off people who don't abide kid-diddlers and rapists like Moore.

And this half-assed apology isn't going to win back those paedophilia apologists either, so congrats, Keurig, on pissing everyone off!

Disgusted, but not surprisedI hear that the DOJ is considering a special counsel for the uranium deal. Disgusting.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonCap, I didn't bring up HUAC, let alone in a positive light. And, FYI, I do fall on the side that believes reenacting The Crucible is a terrible idea.
Our real target needs to be the bastards over in Moscow who are determined to undermine us at any cost. Now, that may mean taking measures (proportionate ones, in line with the rule of law and the constitution of the country in question) against their proxies in our own countries, if they are breaking the laws. It does not mean giving the authorities clearance to hold another Red Scare.
Noted.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I just wonder why so many American people keep giving this Republican party the benefit of the doubt.
We gave them the benefit on terrorism and the wars in the Middle East.
We gave them the benefit of the doubt on the economy and deregulation.
We gave them the benefit of the doubt on immigration.
We gave them the benefit of the doubt on the War on Drugs.
Some queer people gave Trump the benefit of the doubt, and we're seeing how that's going.
How many times do we have to be burned before we take our hands off of the stove?
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyI wasn't referencing you, I was referencing the person who seemed to be in favor of HUAC making a comeback. (Fluffy)

It'll end up like the other dozen email and Bengahzi investigations.
Probably an attempt to distract from the reveals of Trump collaborateuring with Wikileaks and Moore being a sexual predator.
Disgusted, but not surprised
Keurig CEO apologizes for the way they halted advertising on 'Hannity' over the Moore Controversy, although the article is vague on whether they will go back to advertising or not.
It's a shame that Keurig cares more about money (period) then for not supporting a show that defends Harassers (and money). On the bright side, 11 Companies have pulled advertising from 'Hannity' since the Moore Phone Interview.
