Here is the wayback machine's archived version of the page from 2006.
The current version really hasn't changed much since then.
Hmm... though it's gotten a little longer. Maybe it was just general usage elsewhere that I'm remembering, but either way, what is this article actually about?
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.Theories or fanfic considered overly self-indulgent. It can involve fans analyzing details that the writers and other fans don't care about at all, but it can also involve trying to fix details that are important, if the proposed solution is ridiculous enough.
I'm having trouble seeing the difference between this and Epileptic Trees. Could someone explain it please?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Fan Wank : Epileptic Trees :: self-indulgent : completely insane
There is overlap between the two.
Epileptic Trees are by definition "wild, off-the-wall theories". Fanwank can be perfectly reasonable.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
When I first ran into this article, probably a good two years ago or more, it was pretty clearly about, basically, "Stuff that fans talk about at great length that casual fans, and indeed most creators, don't give a crap about." Now... Well, take a read of it and you tell me what it's about.
Is it about Epileptic Trees? Fix Fic writing? Fanon? Or is it about only some of these things, or none of them? The description seems to contradict and confuse itself. Personally, I can't make heads nor tails of this.
