I can understand that - a Titan Quest game in this style could have been fun. That said, I quite like how they have done it. But for me, the Ancient Aliens element isn't such a deal breaker and adds some interesting twists on Myths.

[up] I take that to mean you're attuning to the Spear more. You have a major connection already, but levelling seems to be a bit more of a regular ingraining of using the Spear itself.

The actual skill tree only gets more powerful when you level the spear. The passive skills, they're linked to basic levelling. So it seems the agility elements and resilience are linked to the basic spear function. The way the humans use the Isu artefacts though, reminds me a bit of Horizon Zero Dawn, or Numenera - never actually used to their full extent OR not for that purpose. So, the Apple was an information transferal or mapping device... and they just happen to be able to use it to warp minds. The Spear was possibly an engineering tool or a spork... but makes for good stabbing.

I think Hubris is one of their defining traits?

Listen to Aletheia's logs in Atlantis. Definitely.

Something I noticed just now on my ship: there is a chest at the back where you can store armor and weapons. Very handy if you don't want to accidentally sell or disassemble something you wanted to keep.

I got some geography question

Main Character is thrown off Mt. Taygetos. They run and get in a boat. They later wash off on Kephallonia where they grow up.

How'd that work? Sparta is Landlocked. Even in game. And Kephallonia is on the other side of the peninsula from the closest coast.

That's a very good question.

Are there no other bows besides common and rare? I have yet to find an epic bow, let alone a legendary one.

No there's all four grades.

You get a legendary one from the hunts the daughters of Artemis give you to do.

Bows are weaker here than they are in Origins.

I need to use a skill just to kill someone in one shot.

Yeah, but that's a good change IMHO.

Predator bows were so OP in Origins, you could clear entire forts easily with them. Meanwhile Light Bows would decimate most gods of egypt and elephants.

And with some mix of arrows and shot types, bows are still fucking powerful. Rain of arrows will soften entire groups. Explosive arrows fired in a multishot are amazing.

Minerva's plan was bullshit and not designed to help humanity. It was just designed to fuck over Juno.

I also get the impression no one actually wants to do the Juno as a villain plot.

She's just The Artifact.

[up][up] I just feel like a headshot should kill on the spot.

It just feels weird to shoot someone in the head & their still standing.

[up]I'm hardly an expert, but would an arrow of the time stand up to a helmet? I think real armor-piercing arrows didn't come around until much later.

Doesn't explain why guys with no helmet or armor can just shrug off an arrow sometimes, or worse beat you half to death with a massive hammer with an arrow sticking out of their bicep, though.

Yeah, but that's a good change IMHO.

Agreed. Forts in Origins once you had a sufficiently powerful predator bow amounted to "find a good spot" and "shoot everyone in the head." Removing that was a good move. Plus, the skill (predator arrow, I think? A single arrow with a massive damage boost), is available very early on and is still useful.

I've got to figure out just how much I'm going to do in Malis. I've got the contract for clearing caves and I think forts, so I'll probably do those. But after that I think I'm just going to move on. It seems even my OCD-esque need to do all the sidequests on the map can't stand up to Odyssey.

I just accept all of them and then let the game figure it out. grin Don't bother specifically hunting down targets too much, it's basically just a time sink. You should be doing fine with just regular side quests and exploration.

Speaking of the hunts for the Daughters of Artemis, the fight with the Kalydonian Boar felt a bit bullshit, mostly because the hitbox for the red charge the smaller boars do extends a few feet ahead of their model. You have to dodge significantly earlier than it looks like compared to other attacks. I had to redo the fight a few times because I got knocked down and then chain-stunned from 80% health.

Meh, I had no issue with it to be honest. It's challenging, but mostly focused on the big boar and took him down.

I had the same problems Red Savant did. I think I had to restart about half a dozen times before I worked out a strategy.

Shooting the boars at range seemed to help. Headshots were pretty easy since the boars don't even try to dodge.

Yeah I did abuse the bow alot. Even the big boar takes a ton of damage from it. Multishot into his head. If you got the skill where regular arrows aren't consumed by skills, you can use the small boars to build adrenaline and shoot all the things with your bow shotgun.

RedSavant Since: Jan, 2001
#13219: Oct 10th 2018 at 6:13:38 PM

Yeah, snap shots with the bow are a great way to take care of the little boars because they come out really fast. It's arrow-intensive, but fortunately you can just pause and fletch yourself another 30 arrows anytime you want, and I think Kass/Alexios will automatically retrieve arrows at a certain probability.

Oh, unrelatedly, the question of Kassandra versus Alexios seems to be the Which Shepard question of a new console generation, right down to similar points raised about little touches in Kass's animations, voice acting, etc. that make her feel more connected and rounded. Do people have any thoughts about that? Apparently there are comparison videos for some cutscenes out there, though I can't look for them right now.

It's been fun.

Alexios' voice acting has to be a Joke.

Like, I had no real feelings on Shepard, I thought both VA shined in different areas.

But like each time I hear Alexios, I am stupefied this isn't a gag dub. His voice sounds like Bad "Bad Acting". Like he's trying to mimic someone and failing. It works when he's Deimos coz I see it as a facade he puts up in his role as a Demigod. But as the main character, holy shit, he sound awful.

Checking out an (admittedly small) sample, yeah, he seems to be puffing himself up - I think the article I read suggested he acts like a parody of the Manly Greek Hero. Granted, the writing doesn't take itself super seriously all the time anyway, but Kass just seems to have a more developed character just from her voice acting along.

It's been fun.

I'm also going by a few videos, so it's entirely possible Hero!Alexios isn't as bad, but yeah, like, holy shit I can't believe that's what they went with.

It's all little things, like this here. It's not super easy to tell with the audio overlapped, but Alexios sounds very flat and growly, while Kass is exasperated but still sounds like she understands that Barnabas has a valid reason to be laughing.

It's been fun.

They sound equally average to me. He’s certainly not significantly worse than her, and his voice kind of reminds me of Ezio’s, which I like.

Not sure about the seemingly permanent frowny eyebrows, but that’s not what’s being discussed.

Yeah, that's not the best scene (and a small sample size anyway). I can't speak to Alexios's acting, but Kass has this kind of twinkle to her most times that really livens up her delivery. Her voice actress does a very good job of selling Kassandra as a generally well-humored person who is nonetheless very dangerous, and doesn't necessarily have the best anger management or patience.

Unrelatedly, whoops. I just left for Phokis last night and it seems I may have doomed Greece, and definitely doomed most of Kephallonia.

It's been fun.
