I mean, we have all discussed the awfulness and entitlement behind the Dogged Nice Guy trope, it wouldn't surprise if there are techbros out there who really want to tokenise relationships behind some "funding" cover.

Ugh, just writing that left me disgusted.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.

Relationships-as-contracts is a weird little libertarian fantasy that I've seen strewn around media, particularly in some of Robert A. Heinlein's works. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some people within that ideology have taken it to heart.

The fact that wealthy individuals often treat their relationships in that way certainly doesn't do anything to dispel the myth, since techbros worship entrepreneurial wealth.

The idea of immutable contracts enforced by the decentralized economic system is really, really attractive to these folks.

Assuming "Relationship" here means what I think it means, I can see Incels buying into that as well.

They really do want "relationships" to be like romance sidequests in videogames.

They think of everything in terms of RPG mechanics. It's so weird.

Is it? we're talking about people that never touched grass here. It makes total sense that their perceptions would be warped by the media they consumed.

You know, that's actually kind of pitiful when you think about it, these guys have lost touch of reality to a point in which they are truly unable to pursue a romantic relationship without a shock therapy, and even if they get one and reach some level of social understanding on what relationships really are about, it will take a lot of rewiring to get rid of that videogame mentality.

I don't pity them but I do find it pathetic.

The ones I do pity are the women who have to put up with their shit.

Oh yeah, absolutely. As if they don't have enough crap to deal with they have to contend with guys who objectify them and act as if that were okay.

I remember how Cherry 2000 had contracts necessary for a one-night stand. I'm sure it was parodying something back in 1987, but I don't know what.

In principle, there's nothing wrong with the "marriage as explicit contract" sci-fi trope - but what the incels imagine about it is the idea that a woman could sign away their right to sexual autonomy and codify the Marital Rape License in law again.

Yeah, there's a lot of "but I don't understand why someone can rescind permission" going on, and they really want to try and cancel that out. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these people were able to make a good first impression...and then generally ended up blowing it on the follow-through and didn't really understand why showing the NF Ts they own was such a turn-off.

The mental image of two crypto fans reproducing and using crypto and NFT's as their kids' college fund is immensely disturbing.

It's actually a little hilarious because I'd like to see them explain to Junior why his college fund got wiped out when bitcoin lost 50 percent of its value in a week. Although I suppose that's tragic for the kid, who didn't ask for any of it.

Hotels are making nights purchased into NFTs

The goal appears to be to absolve the hotels of having to refund cancellations, by being able to say "just sell those nights you aren't staying yourself." This resellability is definitely going to help scalpers too.

A scalper's dream. Now you don't just have to sell the tickets to certain concerts, but also hotel stays near said concerts.

[up]x3 Article is paywalled, but yeah, this seems like the hotels deliberately giving scalpers a massive payday

All hotels or just some? It's walled off for me too but from the lede it sounds like this is limited to some resort-style accommodations. The people who go there can probably afford to trade in NFTs.

The thing I'm thinking of is that if they don't integrate the system perfectly, they're either going to have long delays left and right, or they're gonna double-book people by accident. That already happens and if the NFT thing isn't perfectly designed, they could easily accidentally give two people the same room. And how do you handle that with an NFT?

For that matter, what happens if there's an infestation or something that means the hotel has to close? Or even just like, damage that means having to shut down a few specific rooms? They have to refund the cost in that case because it's not possible to resell the NFT for rooms that aren't available. But with NF Ts, they can't do that. It's opening them up to one hell of a lawsuit.

It'll also be one hell of a hard sale to the kind of people who go to resorts like that, most of them won't know what an NFT is and explaining it would likely go...poorly.

And as Legal Eagle showed in a recent video, any contract associated with the rental of the hotel room only binds the hotel and the original buyer, not any third party to which the buyer might resell the stay. It has the potential for insane legal liability.

For example, if I buy the NFT for the stay, sell the NFT to my cousin, and then he trashes the room, I remain contractually liable for those damages.
