It doesn't have many wicks or inbounds, no apparent YKTTW, and looks to be basically the same as Limited Wardrobe. Merge?

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

I don't think that they're quite the same, although they're closely related. Limited Wardrobe is "The character always wears the same thing"; Plot Pants (while it could be written better) is "Wardrobe indicates whether the character is "on" or not; if what they're doing is plot-relevant, they'll be wearing the same thing all the time. If it's not plot-relevant, they wear something else."

It would be clearer what the difference is, if the name referred to the "off-duty" outfit rather than the one the character usually wears, since the trope is about the off-duty appearance.

Bounce it back to YKTTW for work.

They do appear to be different tropes, but it needs some work still as well as a better name.

Reading the page, I simply got what Madu said, "Off-duty, lazy day outfit that changes when they get back on duty," rather than what I got from the title, which reads "Pants that are required for the Plot" or "A outfit that the Plot dictates".

Yeah, the title isn't the greatest. It's about the character having one outfit they wear when things are happening and things are going on, and then when they get downtime, they wear an ever changing assortment of clothing.

It's been five months since this was active; Let's try to wrap this up.

I agree with sending this back to Ykttw for work. It is lacking in examples, and needs a better name.

Eh, not most superheroes actually. They tend to do a lot of their plot stuff running around in civilian outfits and it's rare for them to have a Limited Wardrobe. Yes, there's that one uniform that they have, but the plot happens even when they aren't wearing it. It's not about the dichotomy between civilian and powered up. It's the dichotomy between things like Normal Plot Episode and Hot Springs Episode.

When characters that have a Limited Wardrobe have an episode outside of the normal plottyness, they don't keep to the limited wardrobe.

Ahh that kind of thing.... (Been on a Magical Girl binge lately so that popped in my head some even adapt their Transformation Sequence to what ever the girl is wearing at the time.)

Anyway Defining things as plot or not is iffy everything is / can important in shows Hot Springs Episode, Festival Episode, Christmas Episode etc all can greatly affect the plot.... so umm really REALLY hate the name,. Out Of Uniform Awesome Outfits might be a better way to put it as a trope, since it's prevalent in works where everyday outfits are in fact a uniform, most if not all school animes use this (Azumanga Daioh did a big lampshade of this iirc.)

Or am I off base again?

Uniforms are not required for this. That's too many school anime talking. It can happen in all sorts of shows. It's the break from Limited Wardrobe that's required.
