Character Development Thread--Discussion

All right, Joseph and Davey's worst day ever part II is complete.

Uh, so that was probably the longest single post I've ever posted here. Sorry about that. I think I probably would've split the Wasteland stuff into two posts between the argument and the action, but then people started showing up, and I wanted to have all that stuff happen prior to any intervention. Hopefully, now that they aren't alone anymore, that will be my very last really long solo writing bit in this thread.

To make sure nothing is confused, or for TL;DR's sake these are the statuses of all involved:

David: Caught in a muddy sand pit that is quickly filling back up. Probably 10 or so feet deep. Will likely not make it out by himself.
Joseph: Running for his life in the general direction of the northwest Wasteland
The Beast/Sinking Demon: Chasing after Joseph towards the northwest Wasteland

Anyone nearby is free to intervene at this point, but I am hoping to have David and Joseph remain separate for a good while, each uncertain of the other's fate.

Regarding the group outside Spell Nexus, if not today I'll probably post tomorrow. Though the characters do need to state one truth to get in, literally so. Otherwise a magical barrier prevents them from crossing the threshold.

@Kkutwar: Are you going to post for Explorer of Unknowns and (incoming) Psyche-Chan up in the spaceship?

Ha, that Wikiword link had me concoct a black comedy Gaslighting scenario in which a cheap office supervisor slowly removes modern conveniences from his offices to save money and greets any outcry from his employees with a wide-eyed "Of course we don't have Wifi, the company can't afford it."

Next week, "What water cooler?"

Week after, "Of course we don't have rolling chairs, company policy forbids objects that could break cords."

And finally they're in a medieval barn with typewriters and candles; and the supervisor is espousing the benefits of vitamin D in preparation for taking the roof off.

Our dick-head manager didn't quite go to those extremes, but he was quite fond of "retconning" things to make it seem like other people had a problem. When our union rep and I were meeting with him regarding the impending drop in my wages, he told the union rep that I had twice been offered a chance of a pay rise but had not taken the chances. So I went and checked it up - those chances had been while I was working in a different area over 3 years earlier and my pay had been incremented since that time. When we next met, I pointed out that I had not been given a chance at a pay increment since I started working in his team over 3 years ago, he then tried to make it sound like that was the fault of the HR department for failing to extend those offers and that he was quite happy to support me applying for a re-evaluation of my salary - funny how that 'kind offer' only came on the table after the Union got involved and it hadn't been an option on the two prior occasions when I approached him about improving my salary (the first time being over 2 years earlier).

Oddly enough, that support for me getting a salary re-evaluation didn't happen in the few weeks between his offer and him announcing that he was moving on...

A cynical person might think that he made that offer knowing that he wouldn't be around long enough to have to deliver...

I just posted for the Chitara's wagon group. In it, I positioned the wagon within viewing distance of where Zarokh is... does that sound reasonable or too soon? If nothing else, we can say there were some moments of silence before Zarokh was spotted, since the conversation in the wagon seems to have died down a bit.

I'd like to point out that there's a currently empty Mad Max/Ork trukk looking vehicle parked in the Scar near the Small River that the group in Chitara's Wagon might notice as well, if they're close enough to spot Zarokh.

I'm trying to figure out some things for a Sufficient Velocity quest (aka Loads And Loads Of Characters getting written out), so I probably won't post for the Spell Nexus group today. Speaking of though, just wanted to confirm the characters who didn't answer this turn is the finalized decision?

Just to clarify, the events of my latest Wasteland post can be taken as having occurred before Nerea's mud magic has taken any action.

The Sinking Demon has been nonplussed by all attempts to stop it thus far, and so it and Joseph will continue gaining distance into the wider wasteland. Not much to write there.

In-Universe, Diantha is a) still kinda in shock from being teleported, and b) is waiting for Cynthia's question to be answered before she says anything.

Though I might edit my last post to have her say something. Edited to have Diantha mention her heritage.

In-Universe, Arilay is a) waiting for an answer to her question, and b) still calculating how likely that cloaked building is to hold an ambush. (Whatever odds you tell me here will not affect whatever odds Arilay ends up calculating.) Shale was pondering the same thing, but got distracted with wanting to talk to Nui.

Likewise, I drafted a section of Varla's rescue to take place before Nerea's mud magic kicked in. The last paragraph from Varla's perspective has her looking for the perpetrator and hoping it's not another Sinking Demon.

I finally posted. I kept finding posts from new people right when I thought I was ready to hit the post button, and then I'd go back to where I was typing up my post and see things to tweak in what I'd already written so I figured I might as well add on the new character-whose-turn-it-was at the bottom...

Slight correction— you put Joseph in the tag of your wasteland post, but he's the one being chased away.

Also, David is indeed not on his back. His legs and tail are more or less perpendicular with the ground, but the rest of him was sitting upright before becoming submerged.

Oops. I fixed my most recent post, is there anywhere else I made that mistake?

Well, sitting like that is at least better than standing. As for Varla, she's lying flat on her stomach and she's got plenty of length to spread her weight out on, so unless David starts thrashing and yanking on her arm, she'll only sink a tiny bit.

No big deal, and quite a nice post, all-in-all.

I've drafted for Varla's next actions. Before I post, is there anything David would be doing in response to the weird-ish start to the rescue? Logically, she'd need to adjust her in-the-next-few-seconds priorities based on (among other possible events) whether or not he faints.

No, it'd mostly be introspective stuff. He's found himself at an unusual calm—given the circumstances—and will most probably just do what he can to oblige the commands of the strange voice inside his head.

Edit: Oof, that was late. A bunch of distracting stuff came up, as it goes. Sorry if there are any weird goofs. I'll check it when I've had some sleep.

Edit: Nope, sorry, got a couple of posts half completed but I haven't the energy to muster any decent writing. It's only quarter to ten in the evening and I feel like it's past midnight already.

Posting might be delayed. Fan in my laptop isn't functioning and I have to dismantle pretty much the entire thing to get to it because the engineers at HP were woefully shortsighted. I'll try to post what I can from the phone, but it could be a few days before I have what I need to repair the big boy.

Edit: Gave it a good clean and put it back together. Not sure if it'll solve the overheating problem, but a fan will take a while to get here so I'm gonna deal with it for now. Posting back on track for the time being.

According to the active character list, Paulred 7; Slysheen; Will De Regio; and Wolf 1066 have characters at the restaurant. Whose turn is it to post?
