In this discussion, it was said that it may be a good idea to have a thread to dicuss thread lock appeals. I did a search, and I couldnt find a preexisting thread for thread lock appeals, so I guess thiss will have to do.

The reason why I wanted a thread to appeal thread locks was because one of my favorite threads was locked, I tried to ask about it in another thread, a mod said that I shouldnt post things off topic. I know that it is possible to appeal through a pm, but having a thread dedicated to the appeals might be useful, in that it allows the people appealing to appeal together.

So to start, I would like to appeal the It Just Awes Me! Edit Banned thread.I understand that we went a little overboard with Laughing at unreasonable bannees, and I'm sure that I speak for everyone when I say that we will try to be more careful in the future.

I agree.

Perhaps instead of unlocking the old edit banned thread, a mod creates a new one with an OP laying out what is or isn't acceptable, and any violators will get ban-hammered on the spot?

or (assuming they decide to unlock it) the mod who unlocks it could write a post in the original thread laying out what is or isn't acceptable, and any violators will get ban-hammered on the spot?

Guys, let's wait for the mods to come here. I thonk they are the people we should discuss it with.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

feel free! I just think it might be an idea to have more people appealing first.

No, as in literally, can you summon a mod?

Anyway, as for the Edit Banned thread. Well, I do think we will be in our best behavior if it's unlocked.

Maybe by a pm? or press the "Holler" button.

Should we try to get a Mod here now? or should we wait untill we have more people to appeal?(Am I spelling that right?)

Also, while the reason I started this thread was for the Edit Banned thread, it is also meant for appealing other locked threads.

I like the idea but I don't know what would be considered acceptable ribbing, we should probably figure out exactly what we consider acceptable before hollering.

Haven't the mods said to just use the holler system every time this has been brought up?

[up][up]simply limit it to people who are banned.

[up]It may be usefull for the people who were in the locked thread to have a way to discuss the appeal

Let's see if having an "Appealing Locks" thread will work before we go putting examples of what we think should be unlocked, OK?

Mods gave warnings in that thread more than once before it was locked. They were not heeded for very long. We considered the last appeal and decided not to reopen the thread.

Also, you can just Holler to appeal a thread lock. I doubt there will be many cases where more than one request will be needed.

Maybe now that the thread has already been locked once, people will be more careful.

I think this is likely a dead end for that thread. Especially considering the attitudes of the mods 2nd chances are given and the behavior comes back.

Maybe if we discuss what went wrong, we can make sure we don't repeat our mistakes.

Maybe. At best I would say that is a long shot. It looks like for now Iron Eye is the one dealing with this so try shooting him a pm and bounce it off of him.

The problem is that despite repeated warnings, we did not get the kind of adjustment we wanted in the thread, that is, not gravedancing or otherwise talking badly about other tropers. Allowing that sort of thing sets a very bad example, and it just doesn't look like you guys can keep it within the boundaries.
