I know this is a tad touchy, but I need intelligent pepole to talk about this.

I have two issues with this.

  • It's Not Needed- If someone bases an arguement "We Are Not Wikipedia" than they are already using a few fallacies right there. We don't need to link to this page. Pepole need to reed the Logical Fallacy pages more anyway.
  • It's Not Effective- It was just prolly made by some angry but well meaning troper. It's not even on main. If we link someone to this it will probably just make them more angry instead of trying to better themselves.

I definetly would like to see blasted "We Are Not Wikipedia" mantra die but I don't think ths page will stop it.

I hope this ends well.

It's fine. It's in Darth Wiki so it doesn't intrude on the main wiki, and it's a corollary to Godwin's Law which is a standard thing to bring up in debate. Also, it's valid. It was not made by an angry troper, or if it was, nearly all of us involved in actively managing the wiki fully believe in it.

I know it's a collary to Godwin's Law, but that has the advantage of exsisting outside of our site.

Tropers Law doesn't feel as concrete. Who made the page anyway?

Sorry. Didn't read ninja edit.

I also beleive in it. But I don't think I could link it to someone who was using it.

It's less common now, but there was a time when roughly half of all TRS threads would devolve into fighting about how renames/SPOON was sucking all the fun out of the site and "turning us into Wikipedia." It was a very, very common slippery slope fallacy used at the time, and the page was created to explain why it doesn't work because people got tired of countering it over and over.

Thank all the little gods of the internet most of that has died down.

Fun fact: it was originally We Are Not Wikipedia, which was linked completely unironically by people making the very logical fallacy that page described.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.
