The 3-player couch co-op in particular makes me really eager to see The Runaway Guys tackle it sometime in the far future.

Animation feels a bit floaty. I think the style could work, it just needs to be snapped up a bit more to be more impactful — drop a few frames here and there to punch up the big, exaggerated hits. Those Turbo Tunnel sequences in particular felt slowww.

Oh geez, the comments on the video's YouTube page are really nasty. And a chunk of them are in Russian for some reason. There's even a Change campaign to rework the game that's in REALLY broken English. Really, guys? Plus, how can there be more dislikes than likes?

And this just makes no sense:

His arms are bigger than the other two and he's beefier than them and you say he's "not as aggressive as he use[d] to be?"

It looks like your average Western cartoon in the new Tens. People HATE that style.

Well...I love that style.

i'm meh on that style. it doesn't make a show bad, but is pretty overused at this point and sometimes i wish cartoons would use more detailed character models

@Targetmaster Joe Yea... Both MAB and Beatman has a point. Let's just say the style feels rather overused. If you like it then that's fine for wackiness purposes I guess.

I always thought Battletoads was absurdly wacky anyway.

This is a game where three anthropomorphic toads can shapeshift their body parts into other animal limbs and sometimes mechanical appendages to further beat up alien animals who want to hurt them and they're saving the galaxy from an evil alien human queen that also wants to hurt them.

Everything about that sentence is wacky AF.

Acknowledging the elephant in the room regarding the style, but it is obvious that the creators of the new game is trying to emulate the style from the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Which is actually appropriate for two reasons.

1) Its a nice subtle reference to how this series was known for being a TMNT knock off.

2) I really enjoy Rise of the TMNT animation for being full of energy and containing loads of amusing expressions in characters. So I think that style works for a series like Battletoads which is very cartoony, even in the arcade game which everybody claims is dark and gritty.

So suffice to say I am actually hype for the game even though Dark Queen doesn’t have on her classic dominatrix attire (really thought see was going to look like Sindel from Mortal Kombat instead of Cassandra from Tangled).

There’s wacky and then there’s...that art style and all the inherent weaknesses and tics that annoy the people to no end.

Of course, there are shows I like despite said style, so maybe the gameplay can win me over here as well.

I'm honestly not seeing anything wrong with the cartoon style they got going. If anything else, I have more of a problem with the new Dark Queen's design.

One thing I like about the DQ's new design is that it kind of makes her look more like a fascist.

x2 Eh, I don’t really see it in her new redesign. She looks more like a potential villain in Netflix She-Ra than a fascist.

If she were to look more like a fascist, she would probably resemble a character from a softcore Nazi exploitation movie. Y’know, to stay true to her original design . . . and that I have some weird fetishes I need to keep in check . . . personally, I blame Cinema Snob for that.

As close to fascist as can be allowed in a game that is clearly being marketed more towards younger audiences.

Personally, as much as I found Dark Queen's original character design...appealing, shall we say...I'm actually fine with the redesign. But then again, I'm also someone who is fine with Adaptational Modesty in general.

What really matters to me is whether the game will actually be fun and avoid being frustratingly difficult to the point of unfairness.

And funny you bring up She-Ra, considering that's a series that got flack from assholes because it dared to give Adora Modesty Shorts. The parallels between this and some of the complaints about this redesign are pretty obvious.

Battletoads Gamescom 2019 gameplay

I was hoping for some actual gameplay but I guess this works too.

It's too bad the game isn't 4 player co-op but I can't think how that would work other than the bird professor guy being playable for some reason.

Apparently it's difficult but possible to beat Battletoads in 2-player despite the Clinger Winger bug.

Not sure how I feel about Dark Queen joining up with the heroes in an Enemy Mine.

Honestly, I'm expecting some kind of twist there. The Toads pushing to get noticed is pretty funny since there was a push to make Battletoads as big as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but it never took.

Having one of the most mediocre cartoon pilot attempts (not named Bubsy) didn't help:
