Id argue that Sonic '06 did something fundamentally wrong given that its Adventure 3 in all but name, but most of the fandom can't or refuses to see it that way.
Like, people will argue about the quality of the Adventure games all day, but most still see '06 as its own thing.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireLike I said, 06 is the most structurally similar to the Adventure games more than literally any other game in the series and you'd have to be blind to not to see that.
The only reason people even argue against it is because like I said, the game fucking sucks. If 06 was a good game, there would be no debate about what it is.
Sure enough, P-06 has so many Adventure game references in them and nobody bats an eye at any of it.
People want Sonic Adventure 3, mainly because 06, rather unfortunately, severely tainted the legacy of the Adventure games in general.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. And I don't think the important part is the number, but that people want a well made Adventure style game.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireSEGA's honestly missing out by not just making a Chao Garden game.
Well yea, that what I was getting at. Was just using the Number to make a point.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.It would explain why SEGA is pushing the games in a non-adventure based direction. they fear that it was lightning in a bottle that they cannot recapture (not helped with some relevant staff leaving during 06's development)
If that's the case, than at this point...I agree with them. But, that doesn't give SEGA an excuse to settle for mediocrity or poor execution such as with Forces.
That's the thing, fans wouldn't be asking for another Adventure game if the newer games actually pushed the series forward in a significant way. The only one of the newer games I've seen get comparable devotion to the Adventure games is Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations.
Sonic Unleashed in particular is kind of the last time Sega really felt like they went all out with a game in terms of presentation, as afterwards the games would get severely scaled down in terms of...everything.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. And Generations is about the best boost game and a milestone celebration. But, it happened 11 years ago, and it is a quite short game anyway.
...
Goddammit, if P-06 was what we had gotten 15 years ago instead of the undercooked mess, I wonder what kind of games we would had gotten down the line.
Oh well, doesn't matter. But I miss the Adventure gameplay; the way jumping works in boost games just ISN'T RIGHT.
I'm of the firm belief that Sonic games do not need to be long to be good, and tryin to make them longer is doing them more harm than good.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. And getting 2 hour long games every 5 years just doesn't make an impression. You can't speedrun a 40 second walkway.
The very first Sonic level.◊ Can be completed in 30 seconds, yet, I've spent more time on it that it may take me to complete the entire game.
Bullshit. Metal Gear Rising is 9 years old and has more people playing it now than it did at its launch in 2013 through sheer Memetic Mutation.
The longevity of the game doesn't matter, but how good it is in the time you've played it.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Somebody has money to spare huh.
The thing is, the series is based on replayability value. Metal Gear is based on being an interactive cutscene.

Metal Gear Rising is a seven hour Character Action game and has next to nothing in common with the main series.
Its as much of an arcade game as Sonic tends to be.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.My bad then. Still, you can have straight lines be memorable and replayable, like City Escape, and have big levels to find optimal paths, like Emerald Coast.
Give me a memorable level from Forces.
Both those levels are straight lines...
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I don't even remember reading/hearing where the "Chao Garden" defined it being an Adventure game. Sonic 06 is it otherwise, just with slightly more characters.
But yeah, I'd love a remake of the game. I had tons of fun with the original, but a less bad Mach Speed section and some fine-tuning, and it'd be much better. Can't really do much with the story, though. It's not a good one by any means, but when Sonic has the least important story to the plot(though finally he is important in the Final Story...), you done screwed up.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.Sonic has the least important story by design...
With Adventure 1 & 2 only clearing the bar by having Sonic encounter the main villain the most & having personal beef with the new antagonist respectively.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I'll add that, from a story potential, I don't really see what the series could offer with its unbreakable status quo. The fact Shadow's development didn't really change his character at all in 06 means that even that game was affected by the status quo.
Dunno, Sonic to me is still an episode series with a random new adventure. What is the difference of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Colors outside emotional attachment?
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.As someone whose never played Sonic Adventure, I can say that it was the first to redesign the main cast, tried to push the Dreamcast to it's limits (i.e Perfect Chaos) and tried to variate the gameplay styles by making all the characters play completely differently instead of them having Sonic's skills and a character unique skill.
Also it expanded on the concept of the Extra Zone via the Last Story, unlocked by completing the game with all characters instead of just getting all 7 Chaos Emeralds.
"Punishment is not the answer. Punishment is easy. It's lazy. Redemption is hard. Redemption makes you work."-Skulduggery PleasantThis tweaked design has broken my sides.
No seriously, this way I can understand how Shadow may have assummed she wanted revenge.
The Metropolis levels (Namely Buddy's and Sonic/Buddy's) are pretty memorable...but that's due to the setpieces and gimmicks
Yes.
It doesn't have Adventure or 3 in the title, does it? So it's not Sonic Adventure 3.
I don't get why anyone argues with people who say they want Sonic Adventure 3 because "Heroes/2006/Unleashed is already SA3." Okay, I want them to make Sonic Adventure 4 then. Now what?
