Mountains S of Rt.36, some days ago

<Up! keep up! Or down, for that matter...>

A group of Nidorino are sprinting down a rocky ladder, accompanied by some Zigzagoon, Loudred, Furret and a very nonrandom Jolteon, after finishing their morning exercises. The lead Nidorino awaits atop a rock for the last members of the group to catch up then follows them to a nearby creek where they are all heading.

After some chitchat, resting and drinking the Pokémon scramble up, most of them going their own ways; most of them more confident now in looking interesting to passerby Trainers, some others worried about the chores of the day such as collecting Berries. The nonrandom Jolteon goes reunite with a small group of Nidorino.

<Hey, Pierce!> greets one of the Nidorino waving a paw. <More training for Double Kick today?>

<Yes!> barks the Jolteon. <I want to learn it well.>

Another Nidorino also chimes in. <Eevee boy is doing well, [Terio]. We could use more Eevees around here.>

Maekrite walks up and carefully pokes Pierce. <You are not tired.> Seeing the Jolteon simply smile and blink, the Nidorino shrugs. <Oh well we can do more training then.>

The group marched to the north, towards a lower, more forested ground; they didn't talk much except for Maekrite and Pierce talking about Sludge Bomb. This lasted for a couple of minutes until the Pokémon found some good trees to practice at.

<Try not to tumble these down, guys?> pointed out Terio a bit annoyed. <Ametsa chided us pretty badly because of the trees we tore down at the eastern side.>

<We will be more careful,> answered one of the Nidorino bowing.

The group arranged themselves in pairs for training. One Nidorino would stand near the tree as a support for his partner, who would run at the first to leap on the first as on a stepladder and gain some altitude and momentum for the attack. Maekrite and Pierce were paired together, with Maekrite resting on the grass, serving as the springboard.

Pierce charged at the tree several times. <Wheeeeee~> was his sort-of-battlecry. Each time he would hit the tree with his foreleg in the midst of a leap, then use the momentum to propel himself backwards to the ground. The first few times he miscalculated and ended up noming grass or sitting in a ridiculous pose, but as time passed he acquired more confidence and proficency.

Maekrite did not comment much on this though; he mostly limited to stare at Terio practising with his partner, painful memories of another timeline surging every once in a while, in particular when he heard the other Nidorino randomly commenting on his everyday life.

After Maekrite spent some time distracted on some thoughts he could not sort out, he felt a stinging sensation in his leg. Growling, he turned around to see Pierce sat besides him, poking his leg insistently.

<Big brother! How am I doing?> the Jolteon inquired.

<Uhm... y-you are doing-> Maekrite turned his head to examine the tree. <Ah yes, very well.>

<Really? You think my backflips are nice?>

Maekrite turned towards Pierce and blinked; the gesture was met with a certain disapproval by the Jolteon, who leaned his head down and changed his tone slightly. <You are not paying attention to me, big brother?> he asked.

Maekrite shook his head. <S-sorry, Pierce... it's just that I-I think I forgot something.> The Nidorino faced to the ground. <And I can not remember what it is.>

Pierce paced around for a moment, looking in all directions, then he came to sit by Maekrite again. <Something important?> he asked. He was met with a halfhearted nod.

Back from the other members of the group there was a short clamor for nap time, to which the lead Nidorino agreeded and called the group to gather at a larger tree to rest under the shade. Pierce and other Nidorinos were commenting on their technique.

<Hey, Maekrite, we never told you of Arakosa, right?> one of the Nidorino asked.

The Nidorino's ears flickered. <...Arakosa? I don't know that name.> He went to sit with the group.

<Ah yes, he was my parli...> answered one of the random Nidorino in the group. <His family migrated from the [Viridian Forest] years ago, when his own parli was a rooli. And he told Arakosa that Double Kick training was very different back there...>

<Really?> Maekrite and Pierce inquired, their interest piqued.

The Nidorino nodded. <Many years ago the training of Double Kick took place in a very secluded part of the forest, parli told me.> He pointed towards the deeper part of the forest. <Because Fighting moves were sought after to beat a nearby Gym by commencing Trainers, the colonies back there held their training of Double Kick as a secret, so Trainers wouldn't know that we could learn that attack until very late in our lives... thus they would not chase us and catch us.>

<That sounds mean.... but yeah,> muttered Maekrite, <we have done things like that.>

<Yeah. The secret was held for several generations, giving the impression that we took years to learn such kind of attacks. But parli said, it all ended one day when a human in black clothes entered the forest.>

Maekrite's ears picked the comment, as did most of the other Nidorino.

<He followed the Nidoran, ventured into the forest. Then he caught some of them and studied them, until he discovered we could learn that attack very early in our lifetimes.> He gave a weird look at the group. <Parli said the man wrote an evil book so that everyone would know. And after that, all the annoying human toddlers would chase and catch us so that they could beat that Gym easily.>

<Who was the bad man?> asked Pierce, not catching much of the reference.

Maekrite leaned towards the Jolteon and spoke to his ear. Pierce let out an annoyed grunt.

<Aaaah, I remember now....> spoke Terio, scratching his ears. <We got a migration of Nidoran from Kanto that year.>

<Yeah, grandpa came here with them, eventually... he said the only reason he resented moving was because mates here are way too demanding.>

There were some veiled laughs across the group as they pawbumped and stuff. Only Pierce and Maekrite did not laugh with the group. The Jolteon simply blinked, savoring the moment; the Nidorino had suddenly paled.

<Something happened, Maekrite?> asked Terio.

<Uh...> Maekrite shuddered, avoided the gaze of the others. <I remembered I have to go... fetch Berries later.>

Route 37

-Smirks-

<Suicune: "I think that you already know the answer to that... And I've still been having a bit of fun giving that dandy with the cape a run-around. If Raikou and Entei weren't still upset about last time, I'd invite you to try your hand at it again...">

-Teasingly-

<Suicune: "Not that it would help much!">

-Going up to Phyco's bubble and prodding it as the seahorse mon shivers-

<Suicune: "Hmm... I see that Master wasn't kidding when he said that Lake picked a couple of things up from our Oblivia counterparts... Are the others off with your mother again? Or are they just taking a bit of a rest in their Pokeballs?">

Nurse Joy: Your sculpture was well made and showed an extraordinary gift. However, it was perhaps a tad too abstract. Good job anyway, and we hope you return for the next annual Winter Festival!

Ebony was struck by the powerful wave. With a spin of his tail Ebony burrowed the base into the ring to stabilize himself and keep from being washed away. The rest of the water washed off the ring and into the warehouse.

Usa & Rex: "Go Chary, kick his butt!"

"Idiots!" Gan roared at them. The pair cried out and ran off giggling. Ganseki posed, throwing both his hands out. "Go Ebony, show that paper weight whose boss: hyper beam!"

Ebony roared and pulled himself back up. He ripped his drilling tail from teh ring's surface, and opened his mouth, releasing a concentrated beam of energy directly at the Hydreigon.

The Kingdra opens his eyes just a tad, sees' the beast prodding at his bubble, then shivers a swims to the other side of the sphere away from the legendary.

Phyco — <Oh, Kyogre help me. A Dragon like me can't die. Not like this...>

Lake rolls his eyes, stepping over to the legendary.

Lake — <Maybe you should leave him, he's a bit started at the moment. Plus it looks like he's close to...well, y'know.>

His trainer, meanwhile, looks a tad uncomfortable at the mention of his Pokémon.

"I still have most of them. They're just off busy doing their own things at the moment. So I only have Lake and Phyco with me right now."

Lake — <And I'm not even his! He released me ages ago.> Smirks. <I just stick around because he wouldn't last long without me.>

"Yeah, yeah, we know..."

-Charybdis, being grounded and unable to dodge, attempts to block the Hyper Beam with her head-hands-

Charybdis: <No... It can't end like this!>

-she weathers the blow, both head-hands severely singed-

Charybdis: <You think you can defeat me? Fool!>

-she charges up a sphere of energy in her central mouth, then launches it skyward-

Charybdis: <Meteors of heaven, unleash thy fury!>

-and it explodes into a flurry of meteors that bombard the ebony Steelix-

-After the attack is finished, she lowers herself to the ground and topples over-

"Now, Octillery, use Aurora Beam!"

The Octillery nodded, forcing a multicolored beam at Spathi. Fortunately, the dragon was able to evade it, letting out a snarl of irritation.

<You slimy son of a bi->

"Return, Spathi!"

<What? Hey!>

Being sucked back into his ball, Spathi grumbled in irritation. Rex placed his ball on his belt and shook his head. "Sorry, but I can't risk you getting damaged now. I might need you later on." Tossing another Pokeball, Mantisk appeared in a flash of light, taking a combative stance.

"A Grovyle, eh?"

Rex: *stares out at the sea silently* ... ... ...
