- —caring significantly less about collateral, Pollen flicks a palp and flowers burst into pollen all around her, shredding them as they come-

-Pollen reaches for Just—-

Pollen: <Ow!>

-and withdraws from the embers-

-and there's the distinctive click-cocking sound of a seed-pod firing line-

-there's an upwelling of something, deep and dark and-

Evelyn: You're still cute, Dalt. I meant that it felt like only yesterday that you were out chasing Wooloo with Kim back in Turffield...

(Dalt happily jumps up into the air in delight.)

Dalt: <Thank you so much! I thought I was not cute. And yes! It does feel like yesterday! I love chasing the Wooloo!>

Kim: "You certainly do, Dalt. Congratulations on your evolution." (She turns to Kaylan.) "Same with you, Kaylan."

(Kaylan blushes.)

Kaylan: <Oh, thank you... but...>

Kim: "But... what?"

Kaylan: <...why don't you seem excited? Grotle's your favorite Pokemon, isn't it?>

Evelyn: Are you okay, Kim?

Kim: "What? Oh yes, I'm fine. It's just that my father usually calls me by around this time to check up on how I'm doing, and so far I have heard nothing from him..."

Me: Oh, he does? I bet he's the guy who suggests you take a break to save your progress, right?

Kim: (beat) "No. He isn't. He is a very loving parent towards me and routinely cares about my adventures." (She looks up.) "I should probably call him later..."

Kim: "What is today...?" (She realizes.) "Oh, yes. It's the 12th of August, why do you ask?"

Evelyn: Because, I turn 17 today.

Kim: "Oh, is that so? Happy birthday, Evelyn."

(She suddenly pauses.)

Kim: "By the way... I have a favor to ask of you, Ian."

Dalt: (tilts his head) <Favor? What is the favor?>

Kaylan: <Yeah, what is it?>

(Kim looks up at Ian and Evelyn.)

Kim: "I would like you to teach me Japanese, if it is alright with you."

Hulbury Stadium, Lobby

Me: Oh! Well, I would love to...

-Ian looks around the area.-

Me: ...but first, I'll be right back. Evelyn... There's something I want you to do...

Evelyn: Oh? What is it?

Me: I want you to... -Ian whispers what he wants Evelyn to do^*  close your eyes and pretend you're in a deep hypnotic trance- ...until I get back.

-Evelyn nods to Ian and then yawns loudly and sleepily, lowering her eyelids so light doesn't reflect in her eyes, staggers slightly, then closes her eyes and pretends to doze off, standing perfectly still.-

Me: I'll be right back, you two.

-Ian runs out of the lobby.-

(Kaylan, Dalt, and Kim look at each other in confusion.)

Kaylan: <W-what just happened...?>

Dalt: <I do not know what just happened.>

(He suddenly notices Evelyn and starts sniffing at her.)

Dalt: <Oh no. Evelyn is on the floor. Is she dead? I hope she is not- she is not dead! She is just asleep. That is a good thing.>

Kim: (laughing) "No, she's not dead, Dalt."

Kaylan: <Still, though... you're trying to learn the Japanese language?! That's awesome! Can we learn it, too?>

Dalt: <Yes. I have always wanted to learn the Japanese language. It is fun.>

Kim: (smiling) "Of course you can."

(Kaylan and Dalt cheer with delight, and Kim looks ahead towards where Ian left.)

Kim: "Now... what is he doing, I wonder...?"

-Ian looks around the city, trying to find an Ersatz entrance.-

Me: I know it's around here somewhere...

-Ian notices a bush near Hulbury Station.-

Me: Yes, that could work...

-Ian jumps into the bush...-

-...and arrives through a clothing rack.-

Me: Now... What would Evelyn want...?

Kim: (to herself) What is he getting...? A cake? I certainly hope it's made of marshmallows...

-Evelyn continues to sleep.-

Me: Piku-chan, Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?

Piku-chan: <I think so, Ian. But why are you buying cake at a clothing store?>

Me: I'm not. I'm looking for a gift for Evelyn.

-Beat-

Me: ...but now that you mention it, I probably should get her a cake. Only problem is, I don't know what flavor cake she'd like.

Piku-chan: <Don't worry about that, Ian. Just focus on finding a good gift for her.>

Me: Got it, buddy.

(Kim looks down at the sleeping Evelyn for a few moments in confusion.)

Kim: (to herself) Why is she suddenly asleep, I wonder...? Should I wake her up now, or should I wait until Ian comes back? And... what exactly is Ian's level in regards to teaching the Japanese language? My main concern is Japanese sentence structure and particles- at least right now, and yet... Rever... he said that Ian and Evelyn would be better choices for Japanese teachers in regards to me... and while that's true... I can't help but wonder...

-Ian looks around the store for a gift for Evelyn, when out of the corner of his eye, he sees a faint shimmer of light.-

-and all the heat coils on her segments fire off streams of flame in the direction of the clicking-

Kim: (thinking, to herself) Does Ian have a full understanding of what he's teaching? Based on what I've heard, it appears his Japanese is pretty good... but according to what I heard from Raru he got a particle wrong once... I'm not sure what particles do, but I know that with regard to teaching a language it's important to fully understand what you're teaching. I learned that from teaching Dutch in Straiton City— not knowing what you're teaching can cause your audience to not trust you... it's the basic principle of Ethos...

-Evelyn is still sleeping, but she mentally wonders why Kim isn't doing anything to figure out what just happened.-

-Ian and Piku-chan clear away the fabrics covering the glint of light and they find a crystal ball of sorts. Ian picks up the crystal ball and holds it over his head, using his telekinesis to make it float in the air out of his hands.-

-Ian releases his telekinesis from the crystal ball and catches it.-

Piku-chan: <A crystal ball... Good thinking.>

Me: Now we should get something to wrap this... and hopefully, not drop it on our, or Evelyn's, foot.

Piku-chan: <We'll also need to pay for this.>

Me: Right. Like with my Magical Scarf.

-Ian and Piku-chan walk over to the counter to pay for the Crystal Ball.-
