Stranger glances at Taipan.

Stranger: "Sometimes you just gotta cut to the chase, huh?"

Domino wiped off the last of the foam from his arm and stood out of the sunroof, knocking a lightning arrow.

Domino: "Time to go birding."

Stranger reacted by bringing around his grenade launcher and firing a smoke round into the sunroof. The cabin started to fill with smome

Domino: "Blegh! Someone throw that out!"

Stranger: "Now would be a good time to disable that truck!"

Murphy, via Drone: Don't worry there, pardner, I've got them.

The resulting smokescreen gave Mav just enough of a warning to narrowly dodge the first arrow. Even he knows that his luck would soon run out. Meanwhile, within the van, Murphy is once again up to his old tricks.

Ma'at: You!

Murphy: Can't disobey input, and Stranger demanded that someone get a lock on this. You could just turn off the WiFi but then you'll be flying blind.

Ma'at: Jokes on you, bitch.

Ma'at calls his bluff and does just that. She had a pre-loaded map and route in place.

One of the minions grabs a petrifier and hands it to Domino.

Henchman C, to Domino: Sir, use this.

Arthur set Lita down, "Hayden?"

<Victor and I had been talking about the idea for your consideration, there are a few islands PEFE with similar isolating phenomena has listed and Victor has the funds. I merely got in contact with our accountant to sort out legal transfer and now Victor technically owns the island, but seeing as his Castle can move...> Hayden paused and let out a low rumbling chuckle, it almost felt like it could shake the pub, <He has decided to gift us the land, with the condition that he be allowed to build upon it.>

Arthur stared, blinked, then looked to Victor still talking with the others, and then smirked a bit, mumbling to himself, "Not as evil as you think..."

With Trevor, <Charmed. I'd introduce you to Grant and Sypha but Victor hasn't let them out yet.>

Victor laughed, "Krampus Jr? Does your father take naughty kids and toss them into a sack?"

Orre - Brimstone Casino

Michael Antell sat in his office, quietly counting away the earnings from the previous day. The Brimstone despite the name was a specially themed upper class casino of sorts, where the rich and powerful came to gamble, play, drink and socialize. The staff was dressed in fancy themed outfits keeping with the red colour scheme and rather unique design.

Michael himself wore a slim red 3 piece suit, a black undershirt with a white tie, he slicked back his jet black hair and scratched a bit at his neatly trimmed goatee. People paid a lot to be here, and they paid a lot because they liked the theme going on, Michael grinned and let out a laugh thinking about it.

He checked over private cams of his underground section, the vault safe and secure as per usual, and the secrets inside ever safer. Several grunts in specialized red armor, with pointed horns and glowing orange eyepieces in the helmets marched about, a few channeling specialized obscuric illusions with some dark type pokemon, others utilizing psychic abilities as well as Psychic pokemon to move things and animate some statues kept down there.

Michael did well, and it was all thanks to a book he had on hand labelled, "The Prax Obscura Vol 2".

"Scratch," a distorted voice called out, Michael nearly fumbled and fell over, he turned around and saw a familiar digital orange helmet, in black and orange armor. Delta...

"How did you get in here without me knowing?"

Delta said nothing, just stood there, staring, Scratch frowned, could've been Zatara, but there was no confetti or announcement and the little egomaniac couldn't resist those. So Scratch was left with a stare off with the number 2... he was Hunter Number 6, what did one of the top 3 want?

"... Say something... why are you here?"

Delta rolled his head a bit and then spoke, his voice still distorted, "You have some extras being delivered to you soon enough. Sphinx will get in contact, can we expect a space in the vault cleared?"

Scratch blinked, "T-that's all you're here for?"

"Council Orders."

"They could've just messaged me..."

"Due to current issues it was felt it would be safer if a direct message was sent, and they sent me to remind you of where you stand."

Scratch grumbled, "Yeah I get it, Sphinx then... good, he pays well and at least treats me with more dignity than you and J."

"We have not based our aliases on our jobs, we have kept our identities safe, while you risk exposure everyday."

Scratch grumbled and looked back to the casino's current pull, he looked over his shoulder and Delta was gone again... feh, what did he know? Michael grinned to himself as he leaned back in his chair and watched the people below have a good time, a few patrons attempting to flirt with waiters and waitresses in more... unique looking outfits and makeup.

He was successful here, and he knew something they didn't, he knew where the screwup lived, and how if she ever got brave he would make her life... heh... hell.

Turffield Stadium, vs. MILO—Finale

Hiro: ...three.

Milo: Er, what?

Hiro: Three moves, right? That's about how many that state can fuel, before the Band cuts it off. Safety concerns, environmental conservation, balance...

Milo: ...yes. Should we be worried about…?

Hiro: Maybe. I haven't gotten around to teaching Chips the, er, advanced sunfire yet. Or Curry the right breathing techniques, on the other hand.

-the only noise is the hum of the Max Guard, the Gossifleur within tentatively retracting its hook from the earth to flee before the flames come back-

Milo: -squinting, discomfited, at a sun- You...have the recall beam. Why aren't you freaking out?

Hiro: -now in a relaxed stance- Well, if she's been incinerated there isn't really much to do but wait for her ghost. Not much to do, so not much reason to rush doing it. Of the reasons I have, it's one of

Hiro: ...two.

Milo: ...that's not very many.

GOSSIFLEUR: -shuffles backward, shunting sections of barrier aside to make way for their limbs-

Hiro: Hear me out. Scorbunny's final evolution, Cinderace, is known for how it deals with great balls of fire. It kicks them, without real harm to itself.

Curry's Blaze activated!
Milo: Kick...the sun?

Hiro: Kick off, really. Even an imitation sun is much more massive than she is—or it's fixed in place relative to the surroundings. I've forgotten which.

-louder- But ideally, she'd disembark at azimuth zero, fifty degrees down—

Milo: -startle- !!!

GOSSIFLEUR: -refocuses the shield, retensing and reinforcing-

-against the fleck of flame that breaks the surface-

-...-

-wafts gently to the barrier-

-and dissipates, revealing nothing-

Hiro: ...

Milo: ...er.

-motioning to his Gossifleur, who drops the Max Guard and starts to shrink- It was...a nice run. I'll call for the coroner—

Hiro: -blowing the fire from his tongue- One.

-and the sun explodes in a rush of plasma-

-most of it is undirected, spilling harmlessly off in all directions, but one pillar strikes true-

-a current of fire and force and-

Curry: -screaming-

GOSSIFLeur: -screaming-

-BLAZING PLEDGE KICK-

-Curry vanishes into the fluff just as the largest expansion falls-

-each size decrement is accompanied by another slam, and another dozen feet in the comet-track of their passage-

-blazing sparks—burning flecks of cotton fluff, linger in their path as they fall, and Gossifleur and Scorbunny alike hit the earth-

-the former on her back, in a long crater-

-the latter on her feet, screaming off the Gossifleur to a halt in the field beyond, leaving skid marks in the grass-

-breathing heavily-

Hiro: -holding breath- …

Milo: ...

Audience: -leans closer- ...

Curry: -fists to the sky- <TOUCHDOOOWN!!!> =XD

-the crowd goes wild-

Gossifleur: @x@

Hiro: -exhale, laughing out the bit of hysteria- ...won. And we're done.

-Milo recalls his Gossifleur—Curry runs all the way to Hiro, and he scoops her up in his arms-

-holding onto her, ignoring the heat- I'll work on the timing. That was good.

Curry: -sizzle- ^u^

-apples burst into sour liquid as they rain down on the earth-

-against this backdrop, the cameras zero in on the bright spark shining in the river of wyrmwind, which confirms itself to be a Tropius burning-

Sapinda: <aaaaaaaaaaahaa—>

-not, however, from flame-

Sapinda used Natural Gift!

Sapinda: <Ha...ha ha ha!>

-cloaked in the caprice current of a Fairy aura, she takes another bite out of the Kee Berries growing from her neck-

Sapinda's Defense rose!

Sapinda: -aura brightening- <You thought this would stop me?>

Sapinda's Harvest activated!

-regrowing more, in the sun- <Challenge me? Disgrace me?>

GIGANTAMAX FLAPPLE: -breath running out, gasping for more-

Sapinda: -crowing- <I am Sapinda, master of dragons!>

-she somersaults backward in the wind tapering off, getting a good run-up-

GIGANTAMAX FLAPPLe: <How are you--?>

Sapinda: -zeroing in- <You will fall before ME!>

-one wing-beat-

-and she dragoons right through the tear in the peel-

GIGANTAmax flapple: -uncomfortable noises-

-it's not a very pretty affair—for all that apples core cleanly, the process generally involves sharpened metal and not, as it happens, a dinosaur-shaped dragon scaly-

-but when she emerges from the other side, one'd never believe it-

Sapinda: -smirk, turning aside- <Now perish.>

-and the apple explodes-

-in fairness, this also gets the multiple-viewpoint action replay-

-and Abilene lets out a breath she was holding to keep the sour out-

Abilene: Soil and sun.

Milo: -walking up to center line, Hiro going up to join him- The power of Grass has wilted… I must say, I haven't had a challenge end quite like that in some time.

Hiro: -bouncing Curry in his arms- If I said I expected it to go quite like it did, I'd be lying. Still, fire to grass, that was surprisingly even.

-holding out his hand- Good match?

Milo: Good match! ^_^

-they shake hands, to further applause—Hiro finds himself holding an odd-shaped piece of metal-

Hiro: -curious- Is this the Gym Badge?

Milo: -proudly- Right you are!

You need to collect all eight if you want to challenge the Pokemon League, and the only way to do that is to defeat all the Gym Leaders!

Hiro: -murmur- ...eight, huh? Let's see how far we get.

Curry: -proudly- <We're gonna go all the way!>

Hiro: -applying pets, lightly- We can try...

Milo: -walking up to center line, he and Abilene picking their way through garden carnage- The power of Grass is...stronger than ever, it seems!

Abilene: Mmh.

Milo: -scratching his head, looking around- Rude you may be, but the bond you have with your Pokemon is unmistakable. You must have trained them for a very long time indeed.

Abilene: ...keep telling yourself that.

Milo: -holding out a hand- Here is your Badge, Challenger—for a battle well...ah—

-Lanatus floats it out of his hand and into Abilene's-

Abilene: -somehow dry- Thank you.

-she pockets it and turns to leave-

-Milo frowns a bit, returning to examining the field-

-...-

Abilene: ...before I go, permit me one question.

Milo: -headtilt- Okay…?

Abilene: ...why Wooloo?

-Milo stops-

-and breaks out into a great beaming grin-

Milo: Why Wooloo? Just look at them!

Abilene: Can't, thanks.

Milo: They're so fluffy and soft and round—it's enough to brighten anyone's day!

Audience: -collectively- awwwwwww…

Abilene:

-distressingly sincere- ...alright.

-she holds up a hand in farewell as she goes, and the audience cheers one last time-

-and the Wooloo stampede onto the pitch en masse, to perform their band-accompanied post-battle dance routine—-

Milo: Proper-ish. Half-credit.

PEFE!Every: Mmm.

Milo: Speak into the mic when you talk, so the audience can hear you better.

PEFE!Every: -pointedly removes her mic-

Milo: ...Well, I suppose I'll have to welcome you into the Galar League! Let's begin!

Battle! PEFE Researcher Every vs. Gym Leader Milo!

-Milo sends out a Shiftry, and PEFE!Every sends out Scuttle-

Shiftry: <...Oh boy.>

Scuttle: <Hey, I'm not pleased about this either. I'd hoped for a challenge.>

Milo: Type advantages aren't everything, challenger! Fake Out!

PEFE!Every: Yes. Protect.

Shiftry: <Betcha didn't see this coming!>

-Scuttle, apparently, did. As Shiftry dashes in to deliver his opening move, a barely-visible barrier flickers in front of him, disrupting his footing by inches. He stumbles, slows briefly, and Scuttle sidesteps-

Milo: ...Interesting opening move.

PEFE!Every: Shiftry is among the species that learns Fake Out. Given its otherwise unnotable pool of available techniques— apologies, Shiftry, but I'm correct— any option you took would give some insight into your strategy at least, but Fake Out is the obvious immediate pick. Denying it to you gives me slightly longer to do my own work.

Milo: ...You don't battle much, do you?

PEFE!Every: This is my...

-she stares into space for a moment as she counts-

Fifth formal battle. And third to be League-official.

Milo: But you already have a team trained up?

PEFE!Every: For research reasons.

Milo: Guess I won't be prying too much. Well, if it's not your first go-round, I don't see any harm in showing off! Throat Chop!

PEFE!Every: Sticky Web.

-Shiftry dashes forwards again. He briefly sidesteps to anticipate another Protect, but he needn't have bothered— as he charges in, delivering his jab to the back of Scuttle's neck-

Scuttle: <My singing career. Ruined.>

-Scuttle largely ignores him in favor of catapulting a small sphere of webbing into the air-

-and then blasting it mid-flight with a stream of obscura from his horn, spreading it into a blanket that coats Milo's side of the field-

Shiftry: <Brave of you to just sit there.>

Scuttle: <I'm standing. And I trust my trainer.>

Shiftry: <...>

-he hits Scuttle again, and the Ariados goes down-

-The lack of happy rainbow tiny horses had left Gale feeling a bit upset as she continued her search. At one point she sat down on a clean-enough patch of grass to check the dex entry and the color drained from her face-

Is that why..? Why would they think I'm evil? I don't hurt people, I take good care of my fans... I get angry sometimes but that's not evil that's just being a person.

-She stares at the ground a little-

Is it the whole 'pays tribute to a demon analogue' thing? I am gonna be sad if that's enough to get me slapped with the Evil tag...

-For a moment she feels like shouting. How dare they judge her like this, she just wants to befriend one... But the feeling passes into just plain coldness and she gets up to continue her idle wandering of the deep woods-

I'll just get something else... Like, a hat or something...

-She grumbles and rants as she wanders, but once she notices what is before her she falls silent. There is a building in the middle of the dark woods; small, wooden, humble. It's a little hut, seemingly abandoned and it provokes a deep curiosity in the wandering trainer-

Huh.

The Abandoned Hut

Hello?

-Gale slips inside the non-locked door and looks around. The hut's interior looks just as rustic as the outside, plain wood with little decoration. While there isn't much furniture what is here is in what could be considered immaculate (if still very utilitarian) condition; free of dust and mold and carefully kempt. The only things with any sign of inattention are a journal and what appears to be a metal bottle on one of the tables (someone has dusted around the items, leaving a circle of dust)-

Okay. This is freaky in the 'I should not be here' sense. Like... I dunno like a dangerous fae lives here.

???: <Oh dear, a visitor. I suppose I'll get the kettle on.>

-Before Gale really has a chance to check the source of the voice herself a diminutive creature scurries into the hut around her and dashes over to start making tea-

What the..?

Indeedee: <Well? Take a seat, no use standing in the dark and cold.>

Oooookay..?

-Gale takes a seat-

I have so many questions.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Pef's team is...weird. She has a lot of fully evolved Pokemon, but they're mostly still pretty weak. She has a Bisharp, and those take forever to evolve, but I don't think Checkmate's ever been in an actual fight.

She has a terrible sense for reading plays if there's any improvisation involved, and she doesn't think big except with regard to what she's set up beforehand.

On the other hand, if we took her to a casino I suspect she'd be counting cards within a few minutes of watching a game, and it looks like she's doing basically the same thing here.

-they sigh-

Muninn: (still apparently fuming some) <I think you're underestimating her.>

Ever: Well, you'd be the expert.

Muninn: <...>

Ever: On Pef. But also on underestimating people, sure. Let's pretend I said that first.

Muninn: <She went to Amanita for some advice.>

Ever: She went to me for advice too. Doesn't mean she figured out how to take it.

Muninn: <She also went to me for advice.>

Ever: ...Hm.

-Oracle, meanwhile, attempts to climb on Pippy to gain pats, while Scramble and the Dreepy Swarm flutter around him-

-Arc and Glimmer are watching intently-

Turffield Stadium, Battle Zone

-PEFE!Every sends out Caretaker-

Caretaker: <Ah, hello, dears. Am I—>

Shiftry: <Enough with the cute act!>

-Throat Chop-

Caretaker: <Now really! I've half a mind to—>

PEFE!Every: Roost.

Caretaker: <...You're lucky the other half disagrees.>

-she rests, once again ignoring Shiftry-

Shiftry: <...> (to PEFE!Every) <You are a very boring battler.>

-PEFE!Every raises her eyebrow at him-

Milo: ...Throat Chop again.

PEFE!Every: Roost.

-once again, Shiftry jabs at Caretaker-

Caretaker: -in a raspy voice- <You aren't a very polite child, are you?>

Shiftry: <In my defense, I'm extremely frustrated.>

Milo: Throat Chop!

PEFE!Every: Roost.

-and again-

-by now, the crowd is quiet. There are even some scattered jeers-

Milo: Hey! Easy now!

-the jeers die out, but in a very reluctant way-

Milo: Look, challenger. I don't like to see anyone get booed, but...you're not giving much of a show. And you're not winning, either. Your Drampa is clearly getting tired, and eventually just healing up isn't going to be enough.

PEFE!Every: Yes.

Milo: So...

PEFE!Every: Are we going to continue?

Milo: Ugh... Throat Chop!

Shiftry: <Will you just stop!>

-he hits Caretaker again-

PEFE!Every: Dragon Pulse.

-and the response is a blinding column of white light, limned in blue, that briefly whites out the observing cameras and the eyes of the crowd-

-as it clears, everyone blinking away spots (save PEFE!Every, who looked the other way as she gave the command), there's revealed a furrow in the stadium that extends to the far wall, which has cracked and shattered-

-and a very, very unconscious Shiftry-

Caretaker: <Well, now I'm just annoyed. All that perfectly good anger, and nobody at all to take it out on.>

Oh yeah. Berserk didn't stop being a thing or anything.

Dunsparce didn't stop being a thing or anything.

Streets

Domino grumbled and snatched the device from the henchman.

Domino: "Fine!"

He aimed the petrifier a Jovi and fired. Jovi was brought to a sudden stop and fell over with a clang, skidding a few feet. Stranger was tossed off and sent tumbling across the asphalt.

Stranger: "Owowowow."

Domino gave a cocky smirk.

"Huh, I was wrong to write your technology off like that."

Warehouse Car Chase

The Van drove into the horizon and into the Kalosian countryside. Inside, the hunters guild mooks that escaped breathe a sigh of relief. They weren't able to get a lot of crates.

Ma'at responds to Domino's query.

Ma'at: We are pleased you think so. We may yet make a formidable hunter out of you. Learn our ways well, and you might find them to your advantage. Despite this seeming failure, our mission was a success. Sphinx himself will debrief you of your progress.

Meanwhile, Taipan signaled Maverick to stop the chase. She and Aston stopped by Jovi's immobilized frame. Upon dismounting, she immediately attempted to help Stranger up.

Taipan: Murphy, scan him for injuries. Don't worry, partner, we've gotcha..

Murphy: Will do.

Murphy downloaded himself onto Taipan's sensors. Meanwhile, she releases another pokémon—a Tauros in armor.

Taipan: Asterion. Hidden power at the Rapidash.

Asterion complied.

Murphy: Took a bit of perp sweating to figure this one out. I feel for the Pokémon who had to wait to be freed from that. Good thing this didn't take too long.

Spikemuth Pub

Lita huffed and sat down at the bar.

Lita: "Two pints please."

C: "I guess if you already have a castle that can move anywhere it's no hassle."

Lita thanked the bartender and gave her a generous tip.

Lita: "If the castle can move anywhere why bother with an island? Why not just treat it like an airship? And further expand the J-Team's air superiority."

Car Chase

Stranger grunted in pain as he was helped up.

Stranger: "I'm fine. A little roughed up."

Jovi was unfrozen. Shaking she stood up and bowed at the Tauros.

"Damn got away." Des growled and kicked the air, then immediately regretted it as pain shot up through his leg.

"...Ok maybe a little more than roughed up."

Meanwhile in the getaway truck...

Domino looked unsatisfied. He plopped down on the seat.

"Just take this metal wagon to the rendezvous. How this is a success I have yet to see."

Casually he tossed the petrifier back to the henchman. He took out an arrow and a flint and started sharpening the tips.

Warehouse Area

Taipan: Don't worry. We've gotcha. Can you still ride? Asterion could do the honor.

Asterion: <I mean, why are cowboys called "cow"boys if they only ride equids?>

Aston: <Well, it's a load of bull if you ask me.>

Asterion: <Hey!>

Aston: <Are you, fine, ma'am. You seem to be a bit stirred and shaken.>

Taipan: Come on, Cowboy. Let's ride. The cops would need an explanation and some assistance freeing the smuggled mons.

A Chateau in Kalos

Sphinx's hologram is waiting in a room with a sumptuous meal set for him and the remaining grunts.

Sphinx, via video call: You might be wondering why this seeming failure is presented to you as a success. You've only barely managed to salvage anything from that freight trip, after all. But it is a learning experience all of you must remember. Ma'at, the catalogue.

Ma'at: Yes sir.

The screen now displays a tally of what they've managed to salvage. A few seemingly unimportant-looking trinkets and artifacts and Pokémon eggs, but not the valuable one they've managed to steal.

Sphinx: While you engaged the so-called heroes who called themselves the Aurabolts, I have orchestrated two more lines containing the two other eggs. Each egg is worth a fortune. I am not one to let greed get the better of me. Here, we have a saying. Don't put your eggs in more than one basket.

A grunt carts in another crate, which had arrived there recently.

Sphinx: By placing one egg in your guard, the Aurabolts assumed that you held the only valuable target. This freed my other two logistical chains from their threat. It isn't enough in our line of work that we defeat our quarry. We must defend it from those who would dare take it. These "superheroes," costumed self-righteous clowns, are an expected hazard. Lesser minds would fill themselves with revenge and waste resources trying to eliminate them. We choose to outwit and overrun.

A complicated chart of all his activities in Kalos alone comes into view.

Sphinx: And these are just my networks in Kalos. Taken together, there aren't enough superheroes to stop the Hunter's Guild. Let them have their pithy victories. In the end, we always win.
