Annoski

Wiz: Over a thousand years ago, [Japan] underwent a systematic purge of Obscura users. The Sinnoh region was the last on the island chain to be struck, after the rest had been nearly eliminated.

Boomstick: And smack-dab in the middle of the region was little baby Annoski!

Wiz: Annoski was only an infant when the [Japanese] militia swept through his hometown, slaying every Obscuric in the area. He himself was nearly killed with the rest of his family, but was saved by the timely intervention of a group of Aura Guardians.

Boomstick: Damn, these guys really thought a little kid was gonna be dangerous, huh? Of course, there is Jack-Jack...

Wiz: Such is the way these exterminations tend to unfold, unfortunately. No mercy, not even to children.

Boomstick: Talk about harsh.

Wiz: Anyway, the Aura Guardians took in Annoski and trained him in the ways of the Auric Spectrum. Even by the time he was a teenager, he was already extremely proficient with his abilities, possibly even outshining his tutors.

Boomstick: Buuut when they showed him an ancient magical keystone they were keeping protected from misuse, his first thought was immediately to use it to prove his worth to the people of Sinnoh! By casting the region into darkness, of course.

Wiz: The Infinity Keystone, as it was dubbed, was an artifact that served as a way to channel Annoski's already-impressive abilities and augment them to an extreme level.

Boomstick: He was so powerful, he was able to fight off all his Aura Guardian friends easily before they stuck his soul inside the thing!

Wiz: And furthermore, it alone enabled him to cover the entire Sinnoh region in a haze of Twilight, using a combination of master level illusionary and barrier techniques. This haze blocked out the sun, stopped most electronic devices from working, kept most people either in or out, and anyone trapped within it who was not a Soul of Silver or otherwise extremely sensitive to Obscura, became spirit wisps.

Boomstick: Huh... I feel like I've heard this before. Isn't that the plot of the game where—

Wiz: Dooooooon't be absurd, it's nothing like that.

Boomstick: Whatever you say, Wiz! This Twilight stuff doesn't sound like it does much for combat, though.

Wiz: Perhaps not, but it does act as a testament to his skill level — and his knowledge of forbidden techniques.

Boomstick: On top of that, he's got pretty much everything you can slap a Dark or Ghost type label on! Shadow Balls, Dark Pulses, weapon constructs, shields, and he can even flash step faster than you can say, "nothing personnel, kid"!

Wiz: Additionally, he has an entire army of Sparrat'um at his beck and call.

Boomstick: You mean Spiritomb.

Wiz: That is what I said. "Sparrat'um".

Boomstick: You're saying it all weird, Wiz! And people say I have a weird accent!

Wiz: ...If you say so. Anyway, in addition to the typical variety, he also had Armortombs, Infiltratombs, Wondertombs, and all other sorts.

Boomstick: That's gotta be cheating! Back before Fairies came back, they didn't have any weaknesses, and then they got Wonder Guard on top of that too? Talk about cheap!

Wiz: Unfortunately, Annoski himself wasn't nearly as immune to attacks as they were. Despite his incredible power, he took a nasty slash from Tagg when he first returned, which he needed most of the remaining two month period to heal before their final battle.

Boomstick: Meanwhile, when he shot Tagg in the back with a full force Dark Pulse, it nearly killed him, but he was back up and running at full capacity within the week!

Wiz: That was assisted by healing efforts from his team, but the point still stands. Additionally, even having a physical form after his return depended on the Infinity Keystone still being intact. When it was destroyed, he became a spirit, unable to interact with the world as a whole before he was taken back to the Spirit World to pass properly.

Boomstick: But good luck getting to it without knowing! Like any good lich, he keeps that thing well protected!

Wiz: Even during the 20K Boss Rush, when the entire J-Team knew his weakness, he managed to endure dozens of attacks with barriers and teleports before the Keystone finally cracked.

Boomstick: And that's, like, 60 against 1!

Wiz: Once again, a testament to his power — and if anything, it's the very sort of testament he wanted the people of Sinnoh to see.

Annoski Voice: "And now, Sinnoh will be lead by a better leader. One that will bring it...    TO A NEW DAWN!   "

J-Con '19

-Ian looks around and finds the guy with the umbrella-

Me: Oh, there he is.

-I run over to him-

Me: Hi. I gotta say, that was a really awesome attack you just pulled off. I'm glad I could help you with it. My name's Ian, and these are my pals...

-Piku-chan jumps onto my shoulder-

Piku-chan...

-Oshawittle jumps onto my head-

Oshawittle...

-Raru "eep"s in surprise and hids behind my leg-

Raru...

-Mothra climbs onto my backpack-

-I then turn around to show her off to him-

and Mothra...

-I turn back around-

Me: What's your name?

-Archer is watching the panel with sparkly eyes-

-Dave and Mia are here too-

Dave: Why did you drag me to this?

Mia: <I'm waiting for the death part to start.>

Jackal grunted and got over to the Avenger and Neon, "Sorry about what happened," he muttered.

Quite frankly Silas was incredibly sore, and a quick look at his outfit would show the Jackal uniform had taken a lot of abuse, there was no repairing this. Silas sighed as Roxy jumped down, "Got the entire fight recorded."

"Good, we can observe later... for now I need pain meds."

"And a new suit."

"Hrm... yeah."

Hacks walked over, ~You at least took some directive, that's good.~

Snakeye spoke up, <What're ya gonna do about your broken supersuit?>

"Replace it. It's too damaged to properly repair."

The Ghost Lord

Wiz: The Ransei region has always had its fair share of "great uniters" in its history.

Boomstick: But none more terrifying than Joseph Nox, better known as Umbra, the Ghost Lord of Spectra!

Wiz: Before he came to power, though, he was a priest of Giratina — one literally engineered for the job.

Boomstick: Yeah, turns out this crazy cult of Distortion worshippers decided to hire a crazy science monkey to help them create a couple of immortal babies to herald the big shadow dragon's return or something.

Wiz: Not just any "science monkey", Boomstick. Umbra, and his counterpart Lina, were created by none other than Nicholas Flamel, the most famous alchemist in history.

Boomstick: Who was a science monkey, apparently!

Wiz: ...Yes. He was nonetheless a science monkey.

Boomstick: Hey, Wiz, you should get a science monkey! Any good immoral scientist needs a monkey to try out your experiments! Ooh, can I be the science monkey?

-There is the audible sound of a facepalm.-

Wiz: ...Moving on.

Boomstick: Anyway, Umbra had Spectral abilities in the first place, but one day Giratina himself personally granted him even more power for his service! With Giratina's divine blessing (and food cards), Umbra had his normal abilities cranked up to eleven, gave him the power to use creepy ghost tentacles, create Spectral platforms strong enough to walk on, and even gave him the power to rip open a portal to the Distortion World to kick people through!

Wiz: As well as the ability to manifest Cursed Zones, areas of unholy corruption that sap the strength from those with spiritual power, until they're as mortal as they come. Additionally, his rise to power in Spectra earned him the servitude of a powerful ghost army, which no doubt helped to keep the people plenty subservient and loyal.

Boomstick: He even made a few special Demon Generals with this freaky mutant stuff! Wiz, you explain this one, it's your style.

Wiz: Yes, the Demon Mutagen. Originally created six thousand years ago by the Latios and Latias siblings Muninn and Huginn, and eventually passed down to Umbra's possession and production, this mutagen was capable of transforming anyone into Pokemon monstrosities capable of rivaling Legendary Pokemon, and humans into... similarly mutant humans. With the exception of the Cragspurian Warlord Celzvet, who got a specially-crafted dose that turned him into an ultra-powerful gold Bisharp.

Boomstick: Talk about goals! First experiment with me as your science monkey, Wiz, turn me into a walking weapon like him! Like some sort of walking shotgun man!

Wiz: I can't just do that on a whim! And besides, we need you as you are for the series.

Boomstick: Aw, you're no fun.

Wiz: Anyway, in the vein of monstrous transformations, Umbra himself had one as well. Channeling the power of an Aura Nexus, he was able to absorb his entire ghost army and become a terrifying amalgamate known as Penumbra!◊

Boomstick: Just look at that thing! It's like Giratina and Kyurem had a horrible mutant baby, and the baby grew up to eat both of them!

Wiz: Penumbra managed to fend off the assault of most of the warlords of the Ransei region, plus a fully-divinely-blessed Amaterasu, still putting up a tough fight until defeated.

Boomstick: Okay, now you're definitely just stealing stuff from—

Wiz: This is actual history, Boomstick! For once, it's not fiction!

Boomstick: Suuuuure. Whatever you say, Wiz.

Wiz: Can we get back on track?

Boomstick: Sure thing! Penumbra literally had the power of an army all in one bigass shadow monster, and was able to use the powers of every single known Ghost-type you can think of! He's usually a physical fighter, but when you've got an entire nation of ghosts in you, you can sorta do anything just about equally overpowered!

Wiz: Even outside of this fearsome form, though, the Ghost Lord has a reputation for ruthless fighting and killing without an ounce of mercy.

Boomstick: And only the worst of the worst could truly earn the title of "Terror of Ransei".

Penumbra Voice:    "Now the fight can really begin!"

Eris, getting nowhere with the 'we should kill it with fire' approach, walks over to Neon and offers him a hand.

Eris: "You alright?"

Death Battle!

Wiz: All right, the combatants are set! Let's end this debate once and for all!

Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEEEEEE!

-It's a calm day in Spectra. Perhaps not a happy day, but a calm one.-

-Until a servant comes knocking on the Ghost Lord's doors. Angrily, Umbra slams the door open.-

Umbra: What are you bothering me with this time?!

-The servant squeals, keels, and kneels, holding up a package.-

Servant: H-have mercy, sir! This package came in for you!

-The Ghost Lord frowns, and takes the package, immediately ripping it open to find an odd large stone with a lemniscate engraving on it.-

Umbra: ...An Odd Keystone? Certainly an apt gift, but...

Infinity Keystone:    Ahh, the despair in the air! Finally, I can be freed from this infernal prison!   

-The Keystone shudders in Umbra's hand, and bounces back. In a swirl of Obscura, the Keystone takes its place at the head of a staff, held by a humanoid form.-

Annoski: Now, I can take my place as the rightful Obscura King!

-The Ghost Lord snarls.-

Umbra: You appear before me uninvited, and speak of becoming king? I should end you here and now for such insolence!

-Annoski takes a stance.-

Annoski: You may try!

-Umbra clutches his sword, Shadow Force, and cloaks it in Spectral energy. Before he can strike, though, Annoski taps his staff to the ground and unleashes a wave of Obscura all around him, knocking the Ghost Lord to the ground. As he pulls himself upright again, Annoski wastes no time in flash-stepping behind him and sending a pulse of Obscura directly into his back.-

-Umbra has the wind knocked out of him, but he's not nearly as weak as some of Annoski's other foes. He snarls, and slashes Shadow Force behind him directly across Annoski's body. Annoski barely has time to pull up a barrier to soften the blow. With his free hand, Umbra rakes across Annoski's face with a Shadow Claw, earning a pained scream.-

-Out of anger, Annoski uses a concentrated Dark Pulse to blast Umbra out of range and give himself some space — which Umbra manages to slow by summoning a platform construct at his feet. Annoski taps the ground with the Infinity Keystone staff, and on cue, a massive horde of Spiritomb appears behind him.-

Annoski: Servants, your time to fight is now!

Umbra: Hah! Paltry forces compared to my own army!

-Umbra snaps his fingers, and his own ghost army manifests. The two armies clash, as do Umbra and Annoski again, energy-cloaked sword against energy-cloaked staff. After a momentary blade lock, Annoski's strength wins out, and he forces Umbra back, following up with a quick swing to smash him backward further. Umbra grits his teeth, clawing his way to a halt after being sent back with such force.-

Umbra: Let's see how you like the depths of the Distortion World!

-He slashes a hole in the air, leaving a dimensional rift in his sword's wake. With a flash step, Annoski moves to force Umbra into his own rift, but Umbra blocks in time with another blade lock. However, once again, Annoski overpowers Umbra, and knocks him backward into the portal, following through shortly after.-

Annoski: Let your god be the first witness to your demise!

Umbra: He shall be the witness to my greatest triumph!

-Slash, parry, slash, flash step, slash, blade lock. The fighting continues, with each side matching the other. After flying into a floating island, Umbra quickly dodges a followup strike from Annoski, and opts to change tactics. Focusing on the latent Spectral energy all around them, he spreads his arms, and the energy condenses.-

-The air gets heavy. The strange plants that populate the Distortion World seem to wilt. Annoski feels his energy slipping away, but he steels himself. With a tap of his staff, he focuses on the energy around him, and as it spreads, it changes into a different sort of haze. The weakening effect is gone, but the unsettling atmosphere remains. Umbra snarls again.-

Umbra: Urgh, you insufferable pest! I know what I must do to destroy you!

-He lunges forward, slashing. Although Annoski dodges the slash, the intent was to actually create another portal, out of the Distortion World. Annoski willingly flash-steps into the portal, followed closely by Umbra, in order to escape the accursed dimension.-

-The combatants are deposited here. Annoski takes a deep breath — this was the air he was so fond of. With renewed vigor, he launches an assault of projectile attacks at Umbra, which are mostly dodged with ease. Umbra makes his way out of Annoski's easy attacking range, and summons his ghost army again.-

Umbra: Few get to experience my greatest powers to their fullest! You die today with that honor!

-Annoski narrows his eyes, and in preparation, he summons his army of Spiritomb again. However, nothing can possibly prepare him for the sight of Umbra absorbing his army into his own body, twisting and writhing as he transforms into the dreaded sight of Penumbra with the Aura Nexus's power. By the time the transformation is complete, the only remaining members of his army are the Demon Generals.-

Annoski: By the gods...

-Penumbra roars.-

Penumbra:    Now, I will savor the joy of ripping your soul from your body!   

-In desperation, Annoski starts unloading every ounce of Obscuric potential he has into attack after attack after attack, powered up to their full potential by the Aura Nexus beneath the battlefield. However, it's not nearly enough — a huge chunk of the onslaught is blocked by a King's Shield, and the rest is simply taken with little more than a hiss of pain. His Spiritomb army attempts to assist, but they are suppressed by the Demon Generals with ease.-

-Penumbra stomps forward.-

-Annoski realizes his chances of winning are null.-

-He attempts to flash step away, but Penumbra is already there, looming before him.-

-Penumbra grabs Annoski.-

-Annoski screams in anger and pain, and Obscura radiates from him in an attempt to break Penumbra's grip.-

-Penumbra grins a sadistic, monstrous grin, and throws Annoski to the ground.-

-The barriers protecting him and his Keystone break.-

-Penumbra crushes the stone with little effort.-

-Annoski's beaten and battered body becomes a spirit.-

-A rift opens up in the ground, and black spectral tentacles wrap around Annoski's spirit, dragging him down to suffer.-

-Penumbra lets out a triumphant roar.-

Boomstick: Damn! I know enough about tentacles to know where he's going!

Wiz: When it came to combat skill without any sort of boosts, both combatants were more or less equally matched. Annoski even had somewhat of a type advantage, having control over both the Dark and Ghost type parts of the Auric Spectrum, as opposed to the Ghost Lord's single type specialty. However, Giratina's gifts granted Umbra power that Annoski could only dream of.

Boomstick: Both combatants had some form of weird spooky environmental haze effect that has covered regions, but Twilight didn't do jack to hurt Umbra, and the best he could even possibly do with it was dull the effects of the Cursed Zone — and that's just guessing! We don't even have proof that it would have stopped it!

Wiz: Additionally, the Distortion World portals Umbra could create meant that he could choose the battlefield, and even though battling above an Aura Nexus benefited both parties, only Umbra had the power to use it to use his entire army's power as his own. There is nothing Annoski has ever demonstrated that could have brought down Penumbra one-on-one.

Boomstick: No matter what, Annoski was doomed to live— and die— in the Ghost Lord's shadow.

Wiz: The winner is, the Ghost Lord!

J-Con, aftermath

The Viewfinder and Arachna-Guy have vanished from the scene. Not five minutes after they were last scene, Tommy and Shutter emerge from the rubble, followed by their Pokémon.

Tommy: Oh, what a mess.

Shutter: Well, I'm certainly glad to see you okay, Tommy. You look a bit worse for wear.

Tommy: I should say the same thing about you. You got slimed?

Shutter: Whaddya mean? It's just unseasonably warm.

Tommy: It's almost summer. It's not that hot. Of course, that's not the only reason why people perspire.

Shutter: Indeed.

Tommy: Yes.

Shutter: Your camera traps got pictures of Arachna-Guy?

Tommy: And the Aurabolts. And the Auric Avenger. And a bunch of other superheroes, including the kid who could transform into several pokémon but got his ass handed to him.

Shutter: And Jonathan?

Tommy: He's still with that guy he escorted out. Speaking of, there he is now.

Jonathan is spotted among the crowd, looking for someone.

Jonathan: Oh, thank Arceus you're safe. But have you seen Priscilla?

Tommy: No, I don't think so— who's Priscilla?

Jonathan checks his phone and reads a text.

Jonathan: She's... someone special. Dude, we really need to talk a lot more often.

Shutter: You know, when I was hiding in the table, I noticed something about Arachna-Guy.

Tommy: I'm pretty sure he's always been that jacked, why do you ask?

Shutter: Nah, I kinda thought he was a punk bitch under that hoodie outfit, but I also noticed... since when was Aranos a joltik?

Tommy: Hmmm... I don't have an answer for that. But still, we need to talk.

Jonathan: He probably has a bunch of spiders on hand and calls them all Aranos for simplification purposes.

Tommy: Well, there's that.

Shutter: Yeah, that makes sense. Why the same name, though?

-Pent's looking... Well he's looking a little drained after that Huge Glitchscura Laser-

Hah!... And that's how we do it at J-Con!...

-With the big damn moment finished the contracts have resolved and the power floods back into the signatories-

We... We use references and memes to win...

-Pent... Well beyond having been a conduit for more obscura than he's ever used, drained most of his and other people's aura and had to hold a giant laser beam steady... He still didn't get a medic after getting shocked did he?-

Someone throw a pokeball on that thing before a Mobius agent snags him... I'd rather not 'win' but actually lose *twice this month*

-The fake elf wizard promptly collapses-

Archer: That was sick bro!

Mia: <That was actually pretty cool.>

Dave: Heh... It actually was...

-Ian feels his Psychic Powers return to him-

Me: It's so good to have those back, untrained as they are...

-I see the wizard who fired the lazor collapse-

Me: Ah?! Doshita no?^note Translation: What's wrong?!

-thinks to self- Whatever is wrong with him, he needs medical attention, STAT!

-I dial 911 into my Xtransceiver-

-thinks to self- Stay calm, Ian... You can do this...

J-Con '19

Smiling lightly at his words being - somewhat - heeded, Colton suddenly felt his Obscuric ability rushing back into him, feeling as though his soul had gone back into his body.

He looked at Pent and watched him collapse, quickly extending a hand to create an illusory pillow to keep him from hurting himself. He rushed over, looking him over to confirm if he was okay.

Lamb descended from her perch to join her trainer, collapsing her bow and looking at Pent. "He's overexerted himself," she observed. "We need to get him somewhere more comfortable, make sure he's nourished," she considered.

"Good call," Colton allowed, watching as Lamb turned back into a Ninetales and draped Pent over her back.

J-Con, Aftermath

Des sighs and goes over to the unconscious grey boy with a first aid kit.

"Another fine mess we got ourselves into, eh secret agent man?"

J-con, post-fight

Bryn goes to contain the glitch before it causes more trouble.

J-Con/Vermilion 9-1-1 office

Phone Operator ♀: 911, what's your emergency?

Me: Yes, hi. I'm here to report an incident of a person collapsing from exhaustion...

Phone Operator ♀: What is your current location?

Me: I am at J-Con, in Vermilion City.

Phone Operator ♀: J-Con? We'll have ambulances dispatched to your aid. Just sit tight. They're on their way.

Me: Thank you so much, ma'am.

-I hang up-

-I then look over at the wizard who had fallen down-

Me: -whispers to him calmly- Don't worry. You'll be okay. I called for medical attention. Everything will be alright... We won thanks to you.

Mezzo: Finally.

-she puts her umbrella away-

Sunny: <You should have helped out!>

Mezzo: There wasn't any need, they beat it just fine. And besides, I had important things to do. Like eating cake.

-Noelle is wandering through the aisles, thoughts racing through her head-

Noelle: Me and Fortis... Do I really feel that way about her? I mean, she is adorable and amazing and a great friend but... mmm. She's still a kid. Sort of, I mean that boy was right, she'll be turning 18 in half a year. And here I am dressing up as her again. But what about my relationship with Psyche and everyone else? If I invited her in... but she's still just a kid, isn't she?

-she stops in front of a poster of Fortis-

Noelle: She's so pretty though... like an angel. And she's always so fun to hang around with and talk to... oh no. I really am falling for her, aren't I? But...

-she sighs-

Noelle: Noelle you useless lesbian... agh, why does this have to be so complicated?

J-Con

Jonathan: Oh, Arceus. I'm so sorry. If I had my car with me, I'd have driven him out. I should've taken your offer to get a gruber.

Jonathan goes to where Pent is, ready to help, and signals his companions to do the same.

Jonathan: Hey, you're an Auric.

Shutter: You are?

Tommy: Yeah, apparently, my powers have been so dormant and underdeveloped I went my entire life not noticing that they were there.

Shutter: Right.

Tommy: I have no clue how to heal him. I just know how to block and project my thoughts. And maybe some first aid. Do we have a medkit with us?

J-Con, fight aftermath

-Duolis takes the Pokeball with Kolemm off of Bryn's hands-

Duolis: Now to take this to Dr. Tagg... He was around here somewhere...

-Neon approaches Silas-

Neon: Uh... Is there... Is there still a chance I...

Silas has taken off his mask, and visibly winces at the question, "Sorry Neon but... the Aurabolts we aren't exactly a safe and colourful team. We're much the Blackwatch to the J-Team's Overwatch, a clandestine group that does black operations. I get that kids can topple empires but... It just wouldn't be responsible of me to take a 12 year old on missions to hazardous areas."

~Especially after the biohazard situation of Lycanrow we experienced... and the zombie army,~ Hacks added.

Silas sighed, "Sorry. I wish I could say yes, but I can't."

J-Con

-Pent mutters out a 'thanks' under his breath now that he's on top of the foxen with a bunch of people being super concerned about him-

-Somewhere in his rattled thoughts, the word 'vampire' crosses his mind and he shivers-

J-Con - Post Glitch Fight

-Phantom crosses his arms and tilts his head at Neon.-

Phantom: "Yes. Even if I have to force Jackal."

-Despite the threat, he's clearly joking. Vulpecula rests her head on his shoulder and frowns inside her helmet.-

Vulpecula: "You still have the mental age of a twenty-year old, huh?"

-Then Silas speaks.-

Phantom: "The kid's capable enough. He knows the risks as well as the rest of us. You realize how old DS was when she stopped Giratina? Roughly the same age."

Vulpecula: "Are...you sure that's a good idea?"

Phantom: "No. All I'm sure of in life is death and taxes."

J-Con, Death Battle

-Elizabeth, Gabrielle, Camilla, and Hinoka all applaud.-

Hinoka: "He reminds me of Anankos."

Camilla: "A little bit, I suppose. Interesting how Ransei is so similar to Hoshido. I wonder if we'll eventually reach this point of technology in our world?"

Hinoka: "Maybe. Don't think we'll live till 600, even with our dragon blood."

Camilla: "And I suppose Nyx is more cursed than blessed..."

-I notice the shiny Ninetales as it wraps her tails around the wizard-

Me: That is a very pretty Ninetales you have, Colton.

J-Con

Colton and Ammy stared at Ian, not saying anything until the Unovan spoke up.

"Thanks, I suppose. She's Shiny, but don't treat her differently because of it," he warned.

J-Con, Post-Fight

Neon: -to Vulpecia- Chrome helped my body and my brain sync up when I first got aged up... But it never changed the fact I was always just a... just a kid...

-to Silas and Phantom- N-no, it's fine... I understand... Just...

-He sits back down on his armor and buries his head in his hands-
