-This time, the Avenger v2 doesn't get up.-

-The same goes for Gregson as Sammartina slams him into the mesa wall.-

Gregson: <Urgh... I hate cats...>

-Meanwhile, Shun's aim wavers as his hands start to shake.-

Shun: ...How do you-

Avenger v3: Stand down, Detective.

Shun: Huh?

-The Avenger v3 slowly gets to their feet, supporting themself with one hand against the mesa wall.-

Avenger v3: If it's me they're after, then I won't let you or my partner put yourselves in danger for my sake. I'll go quietly.

-They look up to meet the figure's glare.-

Avenger v3: ...Besides, I think I know why they're after me.

Shun: What? No, you can't just give up like-

Avenger v3: I said stand down. I don't want anybody else to get hurt today.

PEFE HQ, Dome

-Brie waves happily to Kai, but her grin fades on noticing their face-

Brie: ...What is it?

-Ramphyros nestles down at Brie's side, leaning her head on her claws-

The lankier figure leans down to the Avenger v2's fried body.

??? #2: Once again. Apologies kid. It's no hard feelings, it's just business.

After their "apology", they saunter towards their bulkier counterpart, who humphs in approval at Avenger v3's willing surrender and approaches her.

??? #1: I'm glad you finally came to reason. I have no intentions of hurting you further, unless you make things difficult.

??? #2: -Scooting over to their partner's side and grabbing their shoulders- -Whiiiiich you will not do~! Because we trust you~

??? #1: Please.

??? #2: Apologies boss~

The larger figure recalls their Incineroar and looks around, before glaring between Shun and Avenger v3.

??? #1: Where is the other one?

Avenger v3: The other one? If you're referring to my partner, your subordinate left him face-down in the dirt, but you are not taking him.

-Kai sighs, taking a seat on the side of the dome.-

Kai: ...I've gotten myself into a hell of a mess. It involves fae bullshit and I'm worried about saying a lot about it, but I needed to at least tell you.

??? #2: The other guy we're looking for is called "Alexandre "Lex" Cain". Know 'im? He's like a distant relative of yours or sum'n, and he's apparently in this here time too. So if you-

They're cut off as they notice the angry and annoyed stare they're getting from their partner.

??? #2: What?' I though bein' polite would help our cause! You get more Cutieflies with honey than with vinegar after all~

There is a growl from the larger agent.

Shun: PEFE HQ.

-The Avenger v3 looks over at Shun in surprise as he steps forward.-

Shun: I know the man you're referring to. He's being sheltered at the headquarters of the PEFE, after they extracted him from Neo-Flare. To the best of my knowledge he's still there.

-He throws up his hands in desperation.-

Shun: I'd rather see you go after a fascist apologist than someone fighting for a good cause. Please, take him instead of her.

They tap the side of their visor and bring up a holoscreen.

??? #2: That ain't on the memo.

And closes it soon after.

??? #2: Well that's an awkward family dinner and a half, right there.

The looming figure approaches Shun and looks down at him, almost blocking the sunlight.

??? #2: Where. Is. PEFE HQ.

Kai: ...I got roped into helping someone out with "a job", because I thought she was a friend, and it turns out that job was attempting a heist on a national museum.

-Shun looks up at the hulking figure, doing his best to maintain his composure.-

Shun: It's on an island, somewhere in the ocean off of Hoenn. I don't know the exact location, but I do know that it's well-defended, and that's not accounting for the people there. They'll have buried him somewhere deep inside. Just... please, let her go.

Kai: Yeah. The one in the purple cloak. I... was backup, in case shit hit the fan, and it definitely did.

The looming figure hums as they turn back around, addressing their partner.

??? #1: Inspector! Restrain the target immediately.

The lanky figure salutes.

??? #2 Inspector: You got it, Captain!

The Inspector pulls out a pair of fancy, futuristic energy cuffs and walks over to Avenger v3.

Inspector: These babies won't hurt you, but they will temporarily disable the abilities of that power suit you're wearing. Just so you know.

The Captain walks away from Shun.

??? #1 The Captain: We're done here.

-He rushes after the Captain as the Avenger v3 placidly holds out their hands to be cuffed.-

Shun: You can't do that! I gave you all the information you asked for!

Avenger v3: Let it go, Detective. There's nothing we can do.

Kai: I'd already said "I'm in", and by the time I learned what I was in for, it was too late to comfortably back out. So I had to negotiate the terms and minimize my involvement so that I wasn't hurting anyone or stealing anything myself.

-They fidget uncomfortably.-

Kai: I could have just, like... provided moral support, I guess, and never actually physically done anything, but then she almost fell to her death and I was the only one going in rather than out at that point and...

-They stop themself.-

Brie: ....Okay.

I'm not happy that this led to someone getting hurt. If you'd just been part of a failed robbery... but I know Shun, and he could use a break, not another broken bone.

And I don't like that you couldn't tell me before you did this. I could've helped you out of this, maybe. Or Alice could've. Wait, does she know?

The inspector cuffs Avenger v3.

Inspector: Don't worry! This should all be over soon, and you'll be treated decently! 2/3rds promise~

The Captain stops, and turns their head to look at Shun.

The Captain: We never made any deal. You just ran your mouth without thinking through the situation or the consequences of your words. Working only with what you assume is happening.

The Captain tilts their head up.

The Captain: Maybe you should work on that. It might get you into trouble one of these days.

The Captain then faces away from Shun

The Captain: We came here to complete a mission. And I will not rest until the mission is completed.

The Captain looks to the Inspector.

The Captain: Lets go

The two tap onto the side of their helmets and begin conversing with an unseen figure in the strange tongue they were first heard speaking in. After a short while, the two grab a strange, metallic, icosahedron shaped device from their belts and activate it. Causing a bluish portal to appear.

In a single moment, the Captain looks back towards Shun one last time before jumping through the portal.

The Captain: Goodbye, Shun

The Inspector does much the same, only with a salute and also with Avenger v3 in tow.

Inspector: Ciao~ Seeya around, amico~

And almost as soon as the portal was created, it disappears as if it were never there in the first place.

Leaving Shun and Avenger v2 alone in the desert.

A Countryside Estate

Lowell looks upon some of his new statues, most of which were commissioned by the city. One is an idealized portrait of another Macraul, wearing [Roman] armor yet donning an unmistakably [Gaulish] helmet. The piece exudes martial power. Another is of a happy couple in the middle of a dance.

Marius, manifesting as a hologram of a gentlemanly young man in the colors of a rotom, follows him around.

Lowell: Marius. Have the pictures I took of the statues sent. The restorations are to be sent to the mayor. I shall take the liberty of taking and sending the ones made for my family myself.

Marius, electronic voice: Yes sir.

The rotom does as he is told. The hologram fizzles.

Lowell: ...And Marius.

Marius: Yes sir?

Lowell: You and Guinevere have my blessing to troll the J-Team fan page on [Facebook]. One of my nephews had another altercation with them.

Marius: Which one was it this time?

Lowell: The taxidermist, I think. Apparently, the J-Team ruffians broke into his house and told him to toss his entire collection into the sea. The nerve of their accusations. If they have any evidence for cruelty, I'd face them in court personally, but I doubt this J-Team-crazy culture would give us an unbiased trial.

Marius: I... see, sir. I shall respond appropriately.

-Shun simply stares defeatedly at the space where the portal was, before screaming and falling to his knees.-

Shun: AAAARGH! Dammit, dammit... dammit!

-He spends a few moments on all fours, punching at the rocks on the ground, before he sits back up and noticing the incapacitated Avenger v2. Slowly, he gets up and wanders over to the prone superhero - who is conscious, but dazed.-

Avenger v2: Oh man, you s-saved us... my hero~

Shun: Are you okay?

Avenger v2: Yeah, I... I'll be fine... but where's Lilli?

-Shun sighs, eyes stinging with angry tears, then heaves the Avenger v2 over his shoulder.-

Shun: ...We need to get back to the city. Come on.

-He starts dragging him back towards Lumiose.-

Kai: Minstrel was there. Very much on the other side of the conflict. No doubt Alice sent him. So of course she doesn't know I got dragged into this.

-They pull their knees up to their chest.-

Kai: This was the first chance I felt safe telling you or Alice about it, and I only brought it up to Ever before you because they are the least qualified person to invoke the authorities that I know of. Part of the deal was not getting letting the authorities know about the deal.

The air and sand begins to whip around the two, a spotlight shines and then over the speaker can be heard, "Clever detected some weird shit going on out here! Need a lift?"

Above them is a flying car, JD inside looking down, he lands the car and opens the backseat, "Hey partner, what the hell happened?"
