Is it because EVO planned to ban them? Wouldn't DOA also be a punching bag by that logic?

That's 1st I've heard of that, although MK always had a lot of issues when it comes being broadcast because of its gore but I was under the impression that was mostly EVO thing.

And yes, DOA is very much disrespected series. Things were looking more better back DOA 5, but after what they did with DOA 6, people wouldn't shut up about the whole "Dead On Arrival" crap.

[up]

That's more of a problem with Injustice 2, although MK 11 has been occasionally guilty of that 2.

Then there's MK X's Xenomorph.....

I might not be crazy about a NRS Marvel VS DC game like everyone else but I can't deny that I'm going to be a smidge disappointed if turns out it's just I3 & that's it.

I'm honestly surprised at people being shocked at "modern fighting game practices being predatory". Like, you can tell they weren't around with the dawn of modern fighting games, like with Street Fighter II's multiple releases.

Remember the controversy over on-disc DLC and Pay-to-win gems in Street Fighter X Tekken?

I own that game and can't even play it anymore thanks to Games For Windows Live. Dear god, I hate Games For Windows Live.

Still wondering if anyone actually cared about DLC as opposed to being angry about it. SF X T still isn't anywhere as shitastic as people claim it is.

I understand the complaint about Capcom Sequel Stagnation. There are only so many times you can buy the expansions of a game. That being said I'll never stop being pissed off at the people who gave me shit for wanting to buy UMVC 3.

It can be done poorly, but I'm still a proponent of the current DLC model for fighting games. It extends the life of titles like Street Fighter V or FighterZ by so much, and allows these games to have fairly large rosters at the end of their lifespan.

The current DLC model is absolutely preferred. The other option is to rerelease updates as separate games and that practice has never seemed right to me.

I won't lie and say there *haven't* been pretty scummy uses of DLC, you want a good recent example of that there's Tekken locking its frame data behind a paywall. But there are some people who say that all DLC characters are a scam on principle and that has always got me raising my eyebrow at those people.

Only thing that's bad about the current DLC model is preservation. Once those servers go down and you can't find a copy of the "complete" edition, you're SOL. That's not getting into that not every game has a physical Updated Re-release. Did Cross Tag Battle ever get one for instance?

There's a Deluxe Edition, but it doesn't have all the last DLC pack.

Random thought, but does anyone else think the Periodic Table would look awesome as a fighting game character select screen?

I totally agree, but geez that would be a huge roster. Who would be your element main? I gotta go with my boi Carbon, ol' reliable.

Argon would be my main, absolutely. Costume made of neon lights.

118 Characters tho. Maybe fill it out with clones?

People say their gameplay is toxic, but Mercury's moveset is so fluid. How could I not play them?

Mercury would be pretty sick. Gold and Silver would attract button-mashers who just want to look cool. I feel like the higher the atomic number, the more technical and hard to play they would be, so Hydrogen would be the tutorial character.

With 118 characters, there would have to be semi-clones, so maybe have each type of element play similarly? Like, the roster is divided into 10 groups: Alkali Metal, Alkaline Earth, Transition Metal, Basic Metal, Semimetal, Nonmetal, Halogen, Noble Gas, Lanthanide, and Actinide, with all members within each group kind of playing similarly to each other.

Sodium and Chloride would be very popular in the FGC

The highest numbers on the table would defintely be either the playable bosses or the Difficult, but Awesome characters.

Buried in the shallow grave Nintendo dug.

We're in a dark new age of publishers having more power over how their products are actually used then they should and Nintendo's at the head of it.

Imagine if you're playing soccer with your friends but then the maker of the ball rolls up in a limo and declares it an unlawful get-together.

...If it's online, they probably are aware Nintendo's online in general is absolutely shit Smash-wise. They probably don't want to run a poor online game. It's pretty understandable from their point of view.

Tournaments take time and can't last that long. If online is a buggy mess, or has lots of lag? Not good for running stuff.

Yeah, it's online again like 2020 was supposed to be. EVO 2020 dropped Smash the moment it went all-online so this isn't without precedent.

Agreed. Not only does it keep the current playerbase, it expands it. People say "you end up paying for more" but like I said they clearly haven't seen how fighting games did it before. Now people say "it shouldn't have been like that to begin with" but people forget fighting is a genre that absolutely requires continuous updates.

It might've felt that way back with SF 4 but it's pretty clear now that fighting games constantly needs to updated in some way. Otherwise it turns out like UMVC 3.

Weird main attractions but I suppose it can't be help.

Just annoyed that Battle For The Grid & Infinite isn't going to be there for side tournies.
