A level system not centered around sacrificing the gaseous blood of your enemies to power your weapons.

That's... different.

More to what? The game? All that's left is sidequests and to return home. To the story? I've heard from others that they've got ideas for five more games.

The one with Thor.

Huh so the ending opens up a lot of questions and speculation to the existence of importance mythological figures in upcoming games.

Atreus is really Loki & Jörmungandr is actually his son from the future.

So that what makes me wonder how is Fenrir gonna come into play since he's also Loki's son & if Loki's daughter Hela isn't born yet then who's running Helheim?

What I wanna know is, who called the Serpent when Kratos and the boy first entered Tyr's temple if Mimir is (or was at the time) the only person alive who speaks his language.

Does Mimir offer any ideas on what drived the Jotungheim Giants to extinction? Theoretically speaking, death from old age and violence should be out of the question, leaving only hunger, thirst and disease.

Weren't there several different Lokis, or aspects of him, in some tellings of the myths? That could explain any discrepancies in the game's universe.

[up] I also saw on this wiki's page that Freya may have manipulated history to make Kratos and Atreus appear to be worse. Not to mention that, if I recall correctly, the Poetic Edda is our primary source for Norse Mythology, so it may not be entirely accurate. Speaking of which, Overly Sarcastic Productions did a good video on the Poetic Edda.

[up] I never understood that.

Like I don't get how that's suppose to justify Odin's Additional Villainy. It looks unrelated honestly.

Though I do love the idea that Kratos' grandson is a gigantic snake monster so it be a little sad if he doesn't get a gigantic wolf grandson too.

What does present real-world time have to do with them?

I'm not entirely sure, but considering how it seems that this series is now going the All Myths Are True route via alternate dimensions, these myths myths being passed down somehow to our earth could be a thing. Not to mention that one of the past games had an extra scene where people were discovering some temple. We have to wait and see how they explain these plot threads in future games.

Edit: And it is also a common occurrence that stories get distorted the more they are passed down, so what I mentioned previously with Freya doesn't have to apply.

I'm just hoping the next game doesn't portray the Gods as still monstrously evil, maybe a little bit of nuance.

As hard as that might be, hopefully Mimir is just full of bias & on purposely villanizing the Gods.

The game does have good gods. Tyr (though he's dead), Mimir himself, Freya her vow to kill Kratos for killing her son notwithstanding...

Mimir doesn't seem to be hating on all gods. He mainly shits on Odin and Thor.

Eh, he seems pretty racist towards all Aesirs to be honest. They're kinda portrayed like bumpkins in general aren't they. Like the tale about Asgard's walls.

Mimir seems to describe them as stereotypical Norse. Horny Vikings. Probably doesn't help that he got the job of Odin's advisor by getting him stoned. Seeing his life's work of diplomacy turn to shit followed by his girlfriend being trapped in a mortal shell that drove her mad followed by being fused to a tree and tortured daily by Odin for kicks, to the point where spending days as a disembodied head bumping into Krato's ass is a massive improvement...

Well, with all of that, Mimir not having the highest opinion of the Aesir is a tad understandable.

Worth noting that the one Aesir he doesn't shit on, Tyr, is not only dead, he's described as being very atypical for an Aesir. Small wonder that Mimir would respect a fellow diplomat.

And there are quite a few he simply doesn't mention, which (considering that some of them are rather morally neutral IIRC) could signal that he's just apathetic towards most of them.

Most of Mimir's stories boil down to either "Odin is a cruel and manipulative jackass" or "Thor is a bloodthirsty and brutal jackass".

So in reality, its really just those two he has a major beef with (totally understandable), and by extension this colors his views on their enemies/victims, and (presumably) their mostly compliant subjects.

Should be noted that Mimir doesn't seem to have any particular issue with humans, even though they are nominally on side with Odin (not like they have a choice).

Did anyone else like the bit where Kratos was shocked at the idea that dying a peaceful death dooms people to go to Helheim?

[up][up]Might have something to do with how his wife died (at the very least I don't think anyone was directly responsible for it, given that neither he nor Atreus express any desire for retribution), and little to do with his version of the Underworld sending souls to different places based on virtue rather than manner of death.

Definitely a good highlight of the differences between Greek and Norse ethos.
