Nomura says "Forget Versus for now".

So, they announce FF 13-2 and then say "forget Versus"? What's going on at Square?

Eh, it's a good thing I'm also interested in Agito and XIII-2. Versus will come when it comes.

That was a bit sensationalist, but Square has been pretty bad at time and announcement management for years now.

Honestly, Agito/Type-0 looks the best of the Nova Crystalis series so far, if only because it's the most complete.

Though, as a posted in another thread, VS does look very ambitious.

Wow, so now Eurogamer is stooping to swiping from Andriasaang and lying about the content?

I love the actual headline!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Update Tetsuya Nomura outlines the recent trailer and hints at 2012 release for long awaited Fabula Nova Crystalis title.

2012 is consistent with comments they made in 2010.

VS does look very ambitious.

Indeed. It looks even better than some mainline FF games that I've seen. Which is really saying something. I'm pretty excited for it, even if we aren't getting our hands on it anytime soon.

The fact that XIII-2 and Type-0 are both due out this year are more than enough to keep me occupied.

Um, for the unintiated, what's the difference between FFXIII, Versus XIII, Agito XIII, etc.

Aren't they all supposed to be like, the same game?

Meh, were already getting XIII-2, Dissidia Duodecim, and Type-0 this year. Those should tide us over til next year.

But it had better actually come out next year. I don't want this to turn into the JRPG Duke Nukem Forever...

[up]Just read this page, it should explain everything.

^^^ They're part of a compilation of games collectively referred to as the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" (The New Tale of the Crystal). They're all totally different games, but they're set in the same universe/share mythology and such.

Kind of like the Ivalice Alliance for XII, Tactics, and such.

XIII is a pseudo-turnbased, ultra-linear game. It plays kinda like FinalFantasyX-2 but with very little control over anybody but your lead partymember, save for Paradigms.

Versus is an ARPG with a linear story but large, explorable environments. It plays like an evolved Kingdom Hearts.

Agito is an ARPG with a huge cast of 14 playable characters, environments aren't as large as Versus but it has an explorable world map a la older FF titles. Story is mission based. It plays like an evolved Crisis Core.

Agito has also been renamed Type-0. Just to make things even more confusing.

Yeah. Initially the games all shared XIII in their titles because they shared similar lore.

But with Agito the world they created didn't really gel with XIII's and I guess someone in marketing realized that it would be a sales nightmare, so now it's named Final Fantasy Type-0.

It is nothing like the VII Compilation.

They don't even take place in the same world.

All the have in common is the l'Cie/fal'Cie stuff.

Eh, not really like the VII spinoffs. They don't take place in the same world (except for XIII and XIII-2), they just share similar mythos, apparently.

I meant that they share similar continuities (the FFXIII). The FFVII compililations were the closest analogue I could think of for Final Fantasy. I get what y'all mean though.

More news on how the gameplay works.

Apparently, although you can switch between characters in battle, If Noctis dies, its game over.

[up][up]Huh. Kind of strange that they allow you to switch characters but still have you lose when the main character dies. I hope the AI for partners is good enough, because I tend to not play as the main character if the game allows me to.

Well Nomura wasn't kidding; this does look like a blend of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. The music in the trailer is superb, as expected.

Action looks... I dunno... Unpolished I guess? Since it's not cartoonish like KH, I know I shouldn't be expecting that game's level of flashiness, but with all the very many enemies you can combat at once, it looks like a FF version of Dynasty Warriors. And the ability to switch characters is nice, but if the whole thing hinges on Noctis not dying, it's probably going to be underutilized by most players (and that's assuming the game doesn't force you to switch characters at certain points while still risking Noctis's life in the process).

Other than that, although Behemoths are one of my favorite FF monsters, I feel they're rapidly becoming commonplace, at least in the Nova Crystallis games. I remember encountering a Behemoth with my brother late in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and running the fuck away from it because Behemoths don't (usually) mess around. Now it's like "Oh, look. Another Behemoth. Ho-hum."

I can kinda see what you mean about the Behemoths. I don't think they've ever been so common.
