I'd actually really like to see the whole game rebooted. Is that weird? Would it even work? I don't even want new story, I just want the story told right.

It's unlikely by this point, Bungie invested too much time worldbuilding just to throw it all away.

Buuut... they might be thinking about giving the destination of Titan the axe, if a theory floating around reddit is true.

I've actually been watching the You Tube channel My Name is Byf, who focuses on the lore surrounding the game, and it makes me think a Netflix animated show based on the game's story would be really cool. Imagine a truly cinematic depiction of things like Vault of Glass, the deep dive into the Hellmouth or flashbacks to the battle of Twilight Gap, with hundreds of guardians fighting off an army of Fallen.

[up][up] I wouldn't want them to change any of that, I just want it conveyed well and properly within the game. That's part of why I think it's a weird notion :P And also kinda selfish, I know they'll never actually do it.

[up] You know, there could be some mileage in a Love Death And Robots style anthology thing for Destiny.

This week's TWAB just further confirms that Bungie is being tone-deaf and bullheaded about going back to D2Y1's general feel, nerfing good perks to the ground and making bad ones look good. Not to mention the weapon loot pool being updated next season to include stuff that's immediately going to get hit by sunsetting in 3 months.

Now most of my friends have either stopped playing and uninstalled the game (and they're raid.report junkies and max triumph chasers, mind you, not the usual casual blueberry), or have spent more time on other games lately. With the sunsetting of weapons and bad overall taste of the seasonal model, some of them are disgruntled that Bungie are effectively shooting themselves in the foot with those crappy decisions. If you're gonna make old content irrelevant, at least give us the insurance that the new content is worth chasing for.

Trying to imitate other MMOs by implementing those kinds of radical changes isn't going to work when you have larger core issues to worry about. For example:

Sniper Rifles – Community feedback has been that Revoker and Beloved dominate, and looking at analytics they account for 86% of Sniper Rifle usage in the Crucible – and if we include other low-zoom Sniper Rifles, the number gets even higher.

... is the result of D2 Crucible maps being too damn small to accomodate high zoom snipers like Eye of Sol or Aggressive archetypes.

I am both sad that this game seems to still be a shitshow at a point when D1 kinda got its shit together and happy that I got out when I did.

Oh no, it had its shit together.

The time between forsaken and this season has been wonderful... D1 did some things better yes, but I would be lieing if I said D2 didnt do some things better as well.... Shadowkeep was legitimately a rise of iron level high point.

This season though and what is coming later? It's like they learned fucking nothing and are so out of touch it isnt funny.

Honestly that's what makes this so much worse.

The whole IP goes in rather big waves. Destiny 1 was decidedly lacking until The Taken King was released, and Rise of Iron wasn't bad but rode the goodwill of TTK. Vanilla Destiny 2 was underwhelming but still had enough story and content to tide people over, but the rest of the first year really strained the player base. I think The Whisper was better received than all of Curse of Osiris. But Forsaken was probably the most successful release in the games history, with a lot of content (a long campaign, two patrol spaces, the longest raid in either game) and radical changes to the gameplay that improved almost everything. Season of the Forge, Drifter and Opulence couldn't help but feel weak in comparison, especially the story, but they did come with new multiplayer game modes, two raids and Zero Hour.

Shadowkeep had a good beginning, the campaign started off great but sputtered to an end. It did redeem itself a little with gradual content drops like Garden of Salvation and Pit of Heresy, Vex Offensive started getting old but suffered when the "boss" in the last phase was actually easier than the warm up. The Sundial was a Menagerie-lite event that had a better final boss and rescuing Saint-14 was a nice surprise, but compounding issues plagued Season of the Worthy because of a lack of matchmaking and otherwise underbaked content.

The best I think we can hope for before the fall expansion would be a new Verdant Forest gametype. At the moment, though, this will be the first time Destiny has only had one raid in a year.

Yeah, you're right, the fact that they have got it right sometimes highlights the more frequent instances where they fuck it up. I've said it before; there is a great game in here somewhere, Bungie just can't seem to carve it out, or if they do they manage to destroy it again within an update or two.

The Almighty is about to be destroyed by Rasputin in approximately 30 minutes. Bungie's apparently making this one a live event similar to Fortnite, meaning you'll be able to watch it alongside everybody else in-game currently at the time of destruction. Need to be at the Tower though, from what I understand: I don't think it'll be visible from the EDZ.

It's now 8 mins past the given time - looks like Bungie has some technical issues. Sigh...

It's happening. Almighty has incoming on both sides. Just taking a while to get there.

It's getting lit up now - tiny little explosions all over the Almighty. Probably nukes though, given the size of that thing.

SgtRicko Since: Jul, 2009
#14166: Jun 6th 2020 at 11:51:11 AM

Holy crap, most of the Almighty's structure actually made landfall and landed not so far outside of the Last City's perimeter. I'm surprised an object of such mass wasn't a straight up extinction event, it was easily bigger than the meteor that killed off the dinosaurs. Sadly, doesn't look like the event had any effect on the EDZ Farm - you'd expect them to be decimated, given how close they are to the point of impact.

BTW try and inspect the damage done to the Tower just to the left of Zavala - you can collect a seasonal emblem.

Yeah, I got that myself.

Probably still not going to be playing this for a while, at least until some other major story expansion drops, but this was still cool to sit through, at least at the end when something was actually happening.

I think the crash site won't be explorable until next season, unless of course there's nothing to explore...

If they condensed the whole thing into a half hour I think it would have been perfect. But it wasn't clear the whole event was going to be an hour and a half long, and so by 15 minutes in everyone's wondering what's going on, and we didn't get confirmation of the incoming barrage until almost 30 minutes in. Last three minutes were epic though.

theLibrarian Since: Jul, 2009
#14170: Jun 6th 2020 at 2:58:47 PM

Yeah, they were. I also think this could have been way shorter. Didn't need to be anywhere near that long, though I imagine they wanted everyone to have enough time to see it if they wanted to.

This season had a lot of cool things going for it, the biggest problem was the complete lack of matchmaking for any of the new gametypes. Being able to spawn heavy frames and use the Valkyrie again made for some interesting new mechanics, and I do wish they would introduce similar ideas in upcoming content. Some of the story material, like Zavala's conversation with Rasputin and the reveal of Felwinters Lie, while maybe not as awesome as Saint-14's revival it was more interesting than the innate story material for all of Black Armory, Jokers Wild and Menagerie.

But even a retread of the Vex Offensive would have been preferable to a literally glorified public event, and bunker clears and legendary lost sectors got old after the third clear, and the more frequent bugs and glitches didn't help any of that.

Zavala has some new dialogue regarding the event, and Ana Bray includes a few hints on where the story is heading towards. She's talking of a new human settlement near the Clovis Bray facility, rationalizing that Rasputin would now be one of the safer places to stay and reiterates this is a second golden age. Of course, this does feel disconnected from what we know is coming up, but it may be a hint towards what will happen post the fall expansion.
