At Capa Nor and Flynn and Patty have both been intro-ed (so I'm hearing Patty's english voice for the first time).

Also, I nearly died in the alleyway fight because I didn't buy armour, got caught in-between the assassins (so when one stopped attacking, another would start, stun-locking me) and worst yet, wasted my Overlimit because of said stun locking, which I know is gonna be a thing with me, which makes me not want to use them, but if I don't use it, I won't get better, and therefore won't be able to string together longer combos.

IIRC Patty's English VA also voiced Mieu in Abyss. Which makes her summoning him in her Mystic Arte kinda funny.

And I love Patty even more now, I wanna give her a huge hug.

I already loved her on PS 3.

@ Rob: It's good that you keep us informed. Thats what this topic needs! The problem with Yuri is that he takes ages to return to neutral stance after twisting and twirling his weapon like a showoff. It makes him Combo Lag: the Character. You solve it via guarding after a combo, or Manual Canceling (Freerun just after an arte ends to get away, requires Manual mode.)

Vesperia uses Team Symphonia's tiered arte chains. Attack x 3 > Base > Altered > Arcane > (Burst) > (Mystic arte) The ones in brackets need Overlimit active. But you can't use Overlimit to become impervious to damage or stuns... not right now. Right now the best use for your gauge is 1) get a high hits count = more rewards after battle. 2) Instacast damage spells quickly or 3) Instacast heals when your team is in bad shape.

About weapons... try to learn their skills before synthing them into others. If it has more than one synth branch it means you can get more of them, from stores or monster drops, so don't be afraid of upgrading. And the map, Monster and Collector Book entries are linked! So you can find needed materials easily.

You basically have to have a high enough level so that Yuri tanks everything right?

I have tried to remember blocking after a combo, but sometimes, I don't do it quickly enough (though how much of that is me, and how much of that is controller lag, since mine tend to drift is something I'm not sure about), or I think the enemy is still vulnerable to attack so try to start a new one, only for them to then suddenly start wailing on me before I can start (or right in the middle if I do start).

Or another enemy attacks me while I'm fighting a different one.

Hopefully, I'll get it.

I should probably experiment with other characters. Maybe when I recruit Judith i'll get serious about that since I remember she sounded a bit odd but fun to use

Finally bothered to play more Zestiria. Why can't that free-roam skill for battles just be the default if it's free, anyway? It's so much better than having to hold a button.

I still much prefer Berseria's combat overall, but at least Armatization seems neat. Could really do with unlocking new attacks for it soon, though. And I like how some encounters and stuff triggers skits or mid-battle conversations. Also, why is Edna immediately just the best.

Armatization is cool, but it's kind of OP. Especially the water one.

Remember kids, Armitization is a dangerous forbidden technique that makes your poor, mindless malakim turn into dragons!

I believe it's handwaved somewhere that the art was perfected inbetween Bersy and Zesty.

Yes the Seraphim perfected it.

Its based on ancient techniques that were lost btw.

The ring and Gun in Berseria were ancient tech meant to fuse/defuse Seraphim.

Some NPC seraph mentions it before the final dungeon, I think. Brings up the possibility of making it symbiotic instead, which is how it works in Zestiria.

The biggest difference between Shepherds and Exorcists is that with the former, the pact is maintained by the Prime Lord, who can break it off if things go badly. Any other seraphim who join the pact do it willingly, and in general it's presented as much more of a mutual thing than the exploitative brainwashing stuff the Exorcists were doing.

What ring are we talking? I don't remember it. Was it in a sidequest?

The one Seres was being sacrificed to create. The Sorcerors Ring.

She has Velvet kill herself before they can take it out of her, since she planned on Velvet munching her down even if hey hadn't required it at the moment.

@ Rob: I hold the block button just after the arte button. That's from my days of playing the PS 3 version, dunno if the joycons give it more lag or whatever. Other enemies butting in is solved by tuning the AI to go after ones not targeted by the player.

Vesperia is the most complex of the Team Symphonia battle systems, so there is a lot to process. When you meet Karol's old guild members you will learn Fatal Strike, which is (one of) my favorite battle gimmick.

@ Kombat: Judy is designed for fighting flyers (she is your Dragoon) and lots of her artes can be used in midair. I used her in Semi-auto to not accidentally jump before I start her attack string. Raven works vs flyers too, but is better for support fire.

@ Zestiria stuff: well yeah, like all player only gimmicks, Armatus is done to give you an edge in battle, but it literally creates a guy with twice the stats and skills. So you go from struggling agaisnt a boss to curbstomping it. Kinda reminds me of EXE evolving in Digimon: Next Order. It has pre and during battle requisites, but its always an 'I win' button.

Exorcists are just normal guys, so they always have a bit of Darkness in their heart. Seraphs are just super sensitive to it, thats why they always went dragon. Shepherds OTOH are 'pure' with not a speck of Darkness in them, so their Armatus is controllable.

What I find funny (from videos I watched) is that Seres and Malak'Laphi were born with exactly the same age as their 'materials'... and they pop out already clothed. Is it the same for 'natural' born seraphs? Then how did Mikleo work? He 'turned' when he was a baby!

I think it was stated that Seraphs age as they feel and Mikleo aged normally because he grew alongside Sorey while Edna is eternally a teenager because she sees herself as a younger sister. Also Laphi was born a 10-something despite his "material" being a fetus, so there is some randomness to it.

They can also permanently change their appearances based on how they feel.

Like if Lailah felt she was putting on weight the way a human would her body would transform to fit said image.

This is also why the Monster Malaks were so common in the past, while most view themselves as humans/animals.

Or a weird blue angel rappig we see in Berseria.

So played through Ragou's mansion.

I gotta say, I keep forgetting that Yuri has a different actor in those scenes. The dude doing it is pretty spot on.

Also....I like Yuri....but when it comes to the Knights, he's kinda an ass.

I get that the Empire has a lot of issues, and many Knights are just jerks who don't really care about helping people, but Yuri seems to go out of his way to antagonize them at every opportunity. I feel like a lot of what he does is just to stick it to them as much as it is to do good.

To say nothing of how, outside of Flynn, we don't see many Knights who aren't corrupt, incompetent or just useless.

Addecor, Bocos and Leblanc seem to exist just to make him look better by contrast even though they have a somewhat legitimate beef with him since he did break out of jail after assaulting two of them and breaking into someone else's house. Now we know his reasons, and we know they wouldn't have listened to him, or cared even if they did, but Yuri didn't help things.

It's important to remember that for as much as everyone in the fandom treats Yuri as Cool Dude Badassington, he's also pretty petulant and immature.

Fair enough.

I mean, it's pointed out that he doesn't know much beyond the Lower Quarter.

In a really weird sense, he's as unexperienced about the world as Estelle is.

In fact, all of them have their blind spots and points of immaturity.

The Schwann Brigade are treated like garbage by Yuri for essentially doing their jobs. He broke out of prison, after all. They're well within their rights to chase him down.

I'm just saying that's a feature of the game rather than a bug.

The game itself is under no delusion that Yuri is king shit.
