Robin is a main character though.

It’s complicated. Robin is an important character, but they’re not exactly the main character in most of Awakening’s story. They’re the deuteragonist to Chrom’s main protagonist in the first arc of the story, then they and Chrom get overshadowed by Lucina as the main character in the second arc, then Robin becomes the central plot important character in the third and final arc.

Yeah, it'd be one thing if they chose like some popular but tertiary Pegasus Knight or something over Chrom, but Robin is literally the player's avatar. They're maybe a fraction less important than Chrom is. Until we find out who the ARMS character is thus far new franchises (and Fire Emblem) still only ever seem to get their protagonists, or the next closest thing to that.

Here are my reasons why I think Ribbon Girl is ARMS' Smash rep:

• She's the second face of the game.
• She's popular in-universe and out.
• Has a natural double jump.
• Is an idol, which would justify her wearing different colors based on other characters.
• Adds more female representation to Smash, which it sorely needs.

I'm still on the alts train. We're getting Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara and Min-Min all with the same moveset.

I'm very interested in seeing whether or not this debunks the "Spirits/Costumes are deconfirms" headcanon that's gone into speculation.

Conceding to the idea that they are for a moment, the characters I would pick then would be Max Brass or Coyle.

Depends on who it is.

Let's say we just get Spring Man: he's both an AT and a spirit. He'd be the best of both worlds.

If it's Ribbon Girl, Twintelle, Ninjara and/or Min-Min then that means nothing for A Ts yet but Spirits would no longer deconfirm.

If it's someone else then we're back at square one.

I feel like actively not going for Ribbon girl, Min Min, or Twintelle despite what they have going for them would solidify that "Spirits = Deconfirm" for me.

Well there's Spring Man as well, and he has a Spirit. He'd do the same, more or less.

I do think we're getting a package deal with ARMS, however.

Dr. Coyle would be so strange. We've never had a game who's sole rep is an antagonist, and I just don't think anyone else who isn't represented by a Spirit or Assist Trophy already is marketable enough to get people excited about them.

Barring something really weird happening (which, to be fair, an ARMS character in general already is) it's gotta be one of Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjala, Min Min, or Twintelle.

So, obviously they'll make all the remaining ARMS characters into Spirits with the DLC. I wonder which stage they'll choose? The most notable thing about the stages is that most ARMS character have their own home stages, so I'm guessing whichever character they pick, the stage will match.

The announcement did say it was going to be a strange fighter so i expect it to be someone who isn't the face.

all of them are inherently strange

I think it's less likely to be somebody who's not on the original main ARMS Roster.

I think it will be Ribbon Girl because of the fighters that's not Spring Man, she makes the most sense. "Mii costumes = not a fighter" has always been bunk anyways.

Spring man being playable despite being an AT would be a bad idea and open up a big can of worms.

It's probs Spring girl or Min Min, the latter of which is the most popular character in AR Ms.

I'd be more annoyed if an AR Ms promotion destroys the 'AT/spirit never playable in current game' fan rule, Sakurai confirms that no such rule ever existed, either ARMS AT or spirit gets promoted and then they do nothing with this for the rest of the pass, instead only being unrepped characters/series.
