Hmmm... Given Yukari's gap-ness, the border warping you to the opposite side of Gensokyo would make some sense.
Given how Mamizou didn't leave Gensokyo at the end of TD, I think it's easy to enter Gensokyo, but hard to leave.
I sure said that!I would naturally think it's the other way around. Hard to enter, but easy to leave. The way the border works is basically by hiding all the cool stuff under an illusion of banality, so anyone wandering in would see an abandoned shrine and a valley full of nothing. Similarly, outsiders going to the moon see a barren wasteland instead of the Lunar Capital.
However, somehow I doubt that those trying to go outside the border would see an illusionary Gensokyo extended throughout the entire world. There's no clear explanation for what exactly happens when you try to leave. PCB says that youkai can easily leave if they felt like it, but what about the humans? Has no one ever tried? I very much doubt that there's any kind of physical wall though, since that's simply not the kind of border it is. It's the border between reality and fantasy, not here and there.
I think it's mentioned somewhere that people who try to go through the border end up at Mayohiga, but I can't remember where.
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedWell, that brings another problem (at least to me). If it is a border between fantasy and reality, how can "fantasy" (the youkai) cross over to "reality"? Wouldn't the border be there to keep the fantasy in as well as keep the reality out? (In fact, wasn't that the point?)
Of course, this doesn't include facts that there still is "fantasy" outside of Gensoukyou. The tanuki girl came from elsewhere and I think it's implied she wasn't the only one living outside, and there are human families like the Hearns who apparently still have vaguely "supernatural" powers, despite that being seen as impossible by "reality". I guess I am just thinking too much into it.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.The "light and shadow" metaphor works pretty well here. Youkai are shadows, empiricism is light. No matter how well you illuminate the area around you, you're always going to be surrounded by shadows at the edge of your light. And if you end up illuminating the entire world, then there are still going to be shadows created behind the things that actually exist blocking the light. You can introduce multiple sources of light to eliminate the shadows around corners, but reasonably speaking there are still going to be shadows. Ridding the world of shadows entirely is an impossible task.
However, that's not necessarily good enough for the shadows. Existing at the very corners of the light, hiding behind everything all the time... it's just no way to live. They miss the old night, when the shadows ruled the world for half of the day. They want a place they can call home, rather than scurrying about like cockroaches. Thus, they created a huge Barrier which casts it's own shadow and rejects the light. A place of eternal shadows.

In kanji, too. It's one character
That needs to be an official Gensokyo writeup. That is really, really cool.
Her lies continue! As a god that needs faith to sustain herself, she couldn't have created the Earth when humans did not exist at the time! And much of the lowercase e earth was created prior to humans as well. I could maybe believe she dabbles here and there on small projects but she in no way is the creator of "these lands."
She's such a lying braggart.
@Shadow and lights thing: Support for this include the Scarlets moving to Gensokyo recently and Mamizou living outside of it.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm also not opposed to moving on to the next character.
Transfer the Sakuya conversation from the main thread to here?
I don't now, you(plural) tell me.
Votes: Sakuya, Kaguya, Wriggle!
1Yuuka 2Koakuma 3Mokou
ive noticed i tend to jump the gun when it comes to voting so sorry if this is preemptive
edit: if there is already a sakuya conversation then maybe we should go with that

Just another passerbySakuya, Kaguya, Eirin. I'm fine with Sakuya.
Song of the SirensKoakuma, Sanae and Wriggle
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedKoakuma, Sanae, Yuuka. I reserve the right to change Yuuka to Kaguya if it would break a tie.
Hey guiz, lets vote on a touhou based on what the other thread is doing! That way, we will confuse and alienate people not reading both threads twice as fast!*
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.The conversation in the other thread is irrelevant, although there's no problem with voting for Sakuya if you feel like it.
Keine, Three Fairies or Seiga
I thought Seiga's not a valid choice due to still being too new for interpretations to arise.
Yeah, Seiga is kinda too new. Of course, if everyone suddenly decided they want to discuss her, that's okay. I just wouldn't encourage it.
Well... I'll lend my support to Kaguya and Yuuka, so:
3: Sakuya, Kaguya, Koakuma, Sanua Sanae, Yuuka
2: Wriggle

Someone said a week ago that we should wait a week. Seems reasonable to me.
Also, you need to establish old interpretations before you can make new ones.

Give me cute or give me...something?Nazrin, Wriggle, Hatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatastatatatatatatatatate.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh? I'd thought we'd do Momiji next, since y'know, midboss, satellite character. Though maybe that's not a rule yet, and maybe we want a break from tengu.
No, I'm not actually voting for anyone, I'm commenting on others' votes.
Current earworm: "A New Journey"
That makes sense I guess. Although I was wondering what would happen if someone were to just wander "too far out" in either direction. Would they just come out the other side? Hit a invisible wall? if you could just "wander through" the Hakurei Border without noticing, then what does it do exactly?
And, yes, I know flying is very common. But for some reason Aya flying around real fast stood out to me, although it probably shouldn't.
EDIT: Page topper. Great. So Aya. She is a crow tengu. Not a crow-turned-youkai (maybe), a crow tengu. I wonder what would happen if she did meet a crow-turned-youaki?
