She's so drunk she doesn't feel it. Also it just occurred to me that oni probably suffer from hangovers that'll hurt like hell.

Well Suika's never been sober so... I'm not going to continue until I find a suitable joke to waking up and needing a drink.

[up] She probably sleep drinks, or somehow uses density manipulation to drink while sleeping. Mini-Suika's are probably involved.

Did you read this somewhere canon and/or semi-canon?

Step 1: Spread sake as mist throughout Gensokyo

Step 2: Get drunk

Step 3: ?????

Step 4: Profit

[up][up] Lucky, I would love to not hangovers, even though I've never gotten one before, but I know they hurt.

I wonder if Suika uses her ability on sake to freeze or evaporate it and then consume it. I dunno how that'll work but it sounds interesting

A three part haiku about Suika:

Suika Haiku

A drunken oni.
Loves to party through the day.
Also flat chested.

The last of her kind
Working to bring her race back
With booze and parties

Wander to heaven
While hiking up the mountains
Then throws a party

Wow I think this is actually my first write up(kind of). Anyway, Suika is an awesome character. She's one of the most powerful characters in terms of both strength and ability, has a great design, and motif to reunite her people. I think my Lolita Complex and interest in Touhou developed because of Suika(read: Tsurupettan).

I've never played Ia MP before, but you guys have convinced me to get it. I was also surprised by how short her SWR story was.

I kinda get the feeling that Suika's older then Yuugi, despite her looks. Compare them, if you will. Suika's attitude is more that of an older drunkard, one who is bitter, cynical and critical. Kinda like the antihero in a Film Noir*

. Yuugi's more of a teenage/early twenties drunk i.e. 'LET'S ALL GO GET DRUNK AND STEAL SOME BUSES!'*

EDIT: I'm practising my footnotes.

On the plus side, your aside about Suika gathering people did make me remember that she can be a valuable part of my Satori epic that way... So thanks for that!

So, here's something I haven't done in a while. Random doujins that feature the character in question. [...]
Bocaj you are insane. When am I ever going to read all that! Däääh!

Well, I definitely have to read the miniature garden thing at least, because Black Tewi is hot the style is interesting.

She didn't ever get better.
aw ._.

A Danbooru search of Ibuki_Suika + solo gives 40 pages of results, as opposed to 235 for just Ibuki_Suika, so...
Tacitus, you are amazing. I got a thousand awesome new pictures from that dump (which is especially amazing given how it didn't contain nearly that many), and a whole lot of avatar material that I don't even know when to use, and... it's interesting how often Suika is used for really dark images. And I have to say, I'm not complaining. I seem to be getting more and more interested in slightly grotesque beauty lately, and these images are serving me well for that~

That angry picture is particularly appropriate... And did you know that it's part of this comicky thing? I have no idea what's going on in it, but it's... really good-looking.

I really want to enjoy that dialogue, but I have to say I can't stand Tenshi "I'm-an-annoying-brat-and-I-get-to-be-absurdly-powerful-for-it" Hinanawi. Annoyiiiing!

What, self-deprecating humor? I thought that's your specialty!

No seriously, as Clarste said, this is a situation in which sticking closely to canon counts as an "alternate interpretation" in its own right. And obviously things need to have some basis in canon, or else we might as well not be discussing pre-existing characters.

That's exactly it. You're not discussing pre-existing characters. You're using the names and appearances of existing characters, but making everything else up.

In the most extreme cases, yes. Ideally, though, we're looking at the character as an abstract entity composed of what we know of them from canon works, then performing a complex balancing act as we take this concept and attempt to use our individual inner universes to build up something more out of the core concept.

Fawriel: Yes!
Fawriel: I wonder if I can use her in my Satori epic.
Fawriel: I never thought about her much.
Fawriel: But then, the same is true of Yuugi.
Durazno: what if Suika uses her powers of density to turn herself into an airhead when she wants to relax?
Fawriel: ... pfft.
Fawriel: Huh!
Fawriel: You know, that airhead thing might actually work.

You know how the Judges of the various Hells employ Oni? Do you know why they are so mean-looking and bad-tempered?

Simple - They might be well-paid (all the better to finance massive parties!), but they are forced to stay SOBER on the job. On the other hand, this makes most sinners too scared to actually try any funny business while undergoing Judgement.

A thing of dubious canonicity: some works portray Suika's powers as being able to mentally influence people, whether by gathering them or making them party/drink. I'd assume she doesn't go running around inviting people, anyway.

[up] Yes, although it doesn't go unnoticed. In Immaterial and Missing Power Reimu, Yukari, Patchouli, and Remilia (and maybe Yuyuko, although the girl uses too many damn metaphors for me to be certain) all figure out Suika's plots.

She tries the same trick in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, gathering people in Bhava-Agra to beat on Tenshi, although this time only Patchouli figures her out.

Moral of the story: Patchouli Knowledge > Oni.

@SDM: I think most of what we do is speculate on the gaps that ZUN leaves in the characterization and history. Only in the most extreme cases do people outright ignore canon. I think its a noble and entertaining diversion.

[up][up] I refer to Gensokyo's buses and the lack thereof in the footnote. Furthermore, I postulate that the reason that there are no buses is because Yuugi stole them all.
