And she's only using second level Kaioken at most. I mean, even if that Cell Jr. is weak, that's still probably stronger than Videl's best.

Now, since it's me, I'm gonna keep enjoying it anyway, but your point is still valid.

Unless they are saying this version of Videl is really strong, but how would she get that way?

Some people have suggested the possibility that her potential was unlocked in the time between his release and now.

They'd have said something wouldn't they?

I mean, I guess it's possible, because even if it's no good for the tournament, it'd still be useful for any threats they have when they get home, but still.

Didn't Elder Kai say in the series originally that he needed 24 hours because of how much potential there was to unlock?

Which. Gohan, after getting beat up by Super Gotenks (+Piccolo) Buu. Was still stronger than Super Piccolo + Goten + Trunks Buu.

...Until he got absorbed, anyway.

And when you go by the thing where Gohan was weaker than when he beat Cell at the start of the Buu Saga.

That's a pretty big jump.

...Granted he trained with the Z Sword for a little bit, but. I forget that and don't think of it as a boost.

I dunno how, precisely, Elder Kai's potential stuff works.

I see. So the amount varies for the amount of hidden potential...or at least that's what they've decided.

Then it is possible she did it sometime after losing her match offscreen, but before Raditz came to them with the offer.

At this point, yeah, Videl must have had her power unlocked.

Having that take place entirely off-screen without any set-up or mentioning it is pretty bad tho. Like she's not in the tournament anymore so it wouldn't be assumed she would have gone for this immediately.

Either way she still seems way too strong relative to be easily smacking around a Cell Jnr.

Why wouldn't she have gone for it immediately? She must have struggled pretty desperately to have survived in this world for this long. "Free power boost yes thank you no gift wrap" seems a pretty appropriate response.

Especially considering that this tournament and thus this opportunity won't last particularly long.

He's from their universe. There's no reason they had to do it now.

She's no longer in the tournament, when some of her allies were/are. It would be more relevant to them, if anyone was going to do it immediately.

It also takes 10 uninterrupted hours. That's a good reason not to immediately spring for it, because it either means missing out on a huge chunk of the matches or going without sleep. Or there has been a lot of downtime that was never established It'd make sense to do this after they go home and could make time for it.

There can be explanations for all of that - the other humans didn't have time due to their matches, there was a large gap we didn't know about, she willingly chose to forgo sleep for it... But none of those are given, so we shouldn't have assumed she'd get it immediately. The story hasn't hinted at any of these things.

So yeah, pretty bad to have no set up for this.

Seems like a great time to do it considering it would be something to get out of the way the sooner the better. You might not always have 10 straight hours free in one sitting in the future.

I would imagine it's more likely to have the time later rather than now. They're literally in the middle of something else.

And again, my argument isn't that it's impossible for this to fit, it's just poor writing to have no build up to this.

Considering she is not in the tournament anymore because she lost she has lots of free time. Back in her universe she might not have 10 straight hours to sit in one place.

Not like they knew that one of the contestants would start a fight during the tournament.

Not lots of free time unless there's a lot of time passing that we're not told about. They've only taken breaks for meals and sleeping so far.

So yeah, it'd be much easier to find 10 hours back at their home universe.

If her universe is soooo busy that she can never find 10 hours there than why did she stick around here? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm just going to agree to disagree because I don't know anyone that ever has ten straight hours that they don't have something that they need to do.

Ten hours isn't exactly a small period of time. That is about two hours from being half an entire day.

But you're saying she has that right now. To be in this tournament she must have nothing to do right now.

Not everyone can do it, but it's not at all bizarre to be able to set aside 10 hours to do something uninterrupted. Shit, Gohan did the ritual in 24 hours. The cast have always done stuff like that. If it's important, they'll find the time.

Your argument simply isn't logical. You insinuate that whatever Videl had back home is too important for her to do the ritual, but the ritual is important enough to do during the tournament, but the tournament is apparently important enough for her to be here instead of returning back home.

So moving on from that

So who does everyone think will probably win the tournament?

Gonna have to be Goku. Gast already earmarked his wish, so he can't help the whachacallits with their goop problem. Bra is long overdue for getting beaten for the sake of learning humility (and her winning the tournament probably won't go over too well with the crowd). Cell, Buu and XXI are evil doodoo-heads, so them winning would not be a satisfying conclusion. Uub was never seriously in the running.

They might throw a bit of a curveball in the Goku vs Vegeta fight, but only if the finale isn't the actual Finale. Can't have the hero sidelined during the Finale.

But Goku isn't actually allowed to win fights anymore...is what I'd say if Toriyama was writing this (and to be fair, isn't really true either).

I can't really remember who else is in it, so I'll go with that for now.
