No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Okay. I've moved it to its own Sandbox so it doesn't get lost. The various Xenos would probably be better grouped together (GW do that on their own webstore now) and the Imperium part still looks a bit overlong to my eyes. I've a few ideas I would like to try out offline and will post them in a day or two if things work out.
I've shortened the texts again and grouped the xenos together. However, I feel that that's the bare minimum already, we've got to indicate what each subfactions are and what they do.
I'll take a longer look later but something I have been meaning to mention is that we don't italicise faction names, just titles of works, sourcebooks, etc. (sometimes vehicle names as well).

The only precedent of an index page describing a bit the characters is for the Warhammer Fantasy Battle one. Although it may be the only one, I think that's a great idea for not only newcomers, but casual fans who don't have enough knowledge of the lore to immediately understand who is who.
Ambulls, delicious and moist. (because it might be still alive)
I am overjoyed to see GW remembers that canids attached to AM units outrank line troopers.
Yeah, the dog parts were amazing. The Joy of Ambull cookbook link just edged out for being the best joke there by my reckoning, however.
The way you had been talking I had thought it was an official policy but if it is just your opinion, that makes it even more important to discuss things as you are doing now rather than just going ahead an making the change off your own back as you did originally. At the end of the day this page is an Index not a Work or Trope page. Each individual page has its own description of the factions it covers. A list of the factions covered on each page could be added as a note (as shown on the Warcraft character index page I linked to earlier), maybe a single sentence description after each link at a push. Also, not only do we generally not italicise faction titles, we tend not to bold them either.
On a different note, can anyone think of the best trope to describe the Imperium Nihilus?
Forbidden Zone and No Warping Zone seem apt, given how difficult FTL travel is in the Dark Imperium thanks to being cut off from the Astronomican.

Disgusted, but not surprisedMy main point is that the index page is also the likely hub from which visitors will go to individual character pages, so we could be newbie-friendly and tell the visitors what each factions look like as a short overall presentation, and allow them to navigate more easily. I could add that adding description does no harm and while there's nothing that makes it obligatory, there's nothing that forbids it.
To me Imperium Nihilus looks like a fantastic mix of Wrong Side of the Tracks and No Warping Zone, the tracks being the great warp rift.
I took a stab at adding very brief descriptions to each of the entries in the index. The organization that's used for the Warhammer factions doesn't feel right when adapted to 40K, to me.
Surely the first place someone who is unfamiliar with the game will go is the main page, where there is already a description of the various factions.
That is more what I was thinking but hadn't got around to doing on my version
On the Imperium Nihilus: No Warping Zone is definitely something that could apply (as would Ridiculously Difficult Route for some of the routes through the Great Rift come to think of it). I think Forbidden Zone would fit better than Wrong Side of the Tracks which is more about economic status.
That canine outranking regular troops thing is something that the military does IRL. It's so they can court marshal the offender in case of abuse.
GIVE ME YOUR FACEYeah; the joke being this is 40K, where they can and do skip the court martial-and go straight to summary execution for failing to salute the superior (canid) officer during an artillery barrage.
Willbyr's version seems like a good compromise.
I agree but would also like to suggest the addition of a preamble and a note on the Other Factions link like the ones I have added to my version.
In other news new Necromunda Bounty Hunters are available to pre-order on Forge World. I like Baertrum Aruros III but the Wyrdlock Bounty Hunter Thaetos 23-2 looks seems to be a repurposed Renegades and Heretics rogue psyker model without skulls on sticks.

That floaty guy looks like a particularly horrific take on Baron Harkonnen.
And Baron Harkonnen was already pretty dang horrific.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBaron Harkonnen would an appropriate sauce seeing as how much the Dune series influenced 40K when it was first created.
Double post because Severina is now available either on her own or with her book.
She still isnt in the US shop. That's frustrating. I kinda really want a pair of her.
EDIT: Got her, for the record. I want to try to kitbash one into a Kriegsman, if I can. Its a damn good pose.

Looking at the Defictionalization entry on the 40k Trivia page has brought to mind a couple of questions:
1. Do the paints really count, isn't that more typical merchandising?
2. If I remember correctly, the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer came out before it was ever referenced in-universe (or around the same time at least) so does that really count?
The paints may not count; I'd added those in but I'd be fine with ditching them. Can't speak to the Primer.
They mispelled the "e" and the "g" in her name for some reason.
