No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

My wallet, it screams!

Picked up the started set for Kill Team. Smaller scale 40k might be what I really need and I like the RP Glite elements. The box is also a freaking steal. No idea what I'll do with the genestealer cultists but I'm developing a theme for the Skitarri based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Fantastic amount of terrain in the Kill Team starter. Managed to offload the Genestealer Cultists, so just need to find someone interested in the Skitarii.

Horus Heresy Mechanicum stuff on Forge World pre-order today: a Vultarax Stratos-Automata Maniple; a Vorax Class Battle-Automata Maniple; and a new instalment of the Character Series Anacharis Scoria of the Legio Cybernetica. I really need to win the lottery.sad

[up] I don't think I've been creeped out by a Mechanicus character like I am with Scoria...that he's so scorpion-like seems very wrong.

[up]Not exactly, but he has the usual ridiculous Magos statline and then some; the reason he gets brought up is because his special AP 2 melee weapon is very effective against the Primarchs. It scrubs FNP and IWND, punches through their 2+ armor, ignores their toughness, and inflicts D3 wounds with each strike with no wounding roll. Together, he has a reasonable chance of killing most Primarchs besides Russ and Magnus 1 on 1, provided he does not lose a round of combat and get swept in an advance.

[up]Mostly the result of boyz fleeing from a scrap within both sight and reach/aim of a Nob or Boss-killing a few yellow bellies breaking for the hills is a good motivator to getting the mobs back into the fight. In terms of specifically singling out an Ork for lethal punishment, the few times it has turned up in the fluff it has been a Nob or Boss losing a battle, fleeing, and reporting to a less than pleased Boss or Warlord who chooses to make an example of them to motivate their replacement and peers.

I imagine in a lot of cases, it's blunt and abrupt. No drama, no speeches, not even an explanation. The warboss listens to their report, says, "Oi see," in a thoughtful tone, then squashes them with his power claw and it's on to the next thing.

I finished the Shira Calpurnia trilogy earlier this afternoon and decided to start a wiki page on it. Pretty good series overall, and it gives a really good look at the Adeptus Arbites. If anyone's read the books and wants to chip in on the page, go for it.

[up]It's been a while (and I can't remember if I have read the final book) but I did enjoy the series. I am going to have to add it to my reread list (which is almost as big as my to read list - I don't seem to read as fast as I used tosad).

I've been going through Traitor General myself. Just went through the thing in the partisan village where the Ghosts manage to kill a squad of Chaos Space Marines.

[up][up][up]I will chip in over the next few days, when I have the time. One of my favorites, mostly for expanding the 'civilian' side of the Imperium while only tangentially involving the Inquisition.

I've actually been wondering about how a Rogue Trader book series would go, myself.

[up]There is a one-off I have somewhere boxed up, inappropriately titled Farseer, which details a down on his luck Rogue Trader that gets pulled into an endeavor by a secret agreement between a Craftworld and a Navigator House, of which his Navigator is a member. There is also a Rogue Trader trilogy: Rogue Star, Star of Damocles, and Savage Scars, which I have never read.

SebastianGray Since: Apr, 2011
#30445: Aug 19th 2018 at 10:51:00 AM

[up]I can't remember much of it but I think I thought Farseer was one of William King's weakest 40K books (as an aside has anyone read his Stormtrooper 13 eBook set in his own universe? It is quite good and I think it does have some 40K influences - the main enemy is effectively a creature from the setting's version of the Tyramids gone rogue allied to the setting's version of the Adeptus Mechanicus).

I have read Rogue Star and I quite liked it, particually for showing what life is like on a Tau controlled human world (highlights include a Tzeentchian street preacher and the seemingly openly operating Slaaneshi night club one of the main characters is taken to).

Indeed XD I remember reading an excerpt of a book where the Tau encounter genestealers and the Tau in charge thinks "Holy shit, maybe the humans are right to be so violently afraid."

So let's imagine for a moment that you're a manager at a company that regularly gets flak for making the viewpoint characters of their main game Space Nazis.

Now let's imagine that someone in your design department comes up with a model whose design features include a pointy hood and a necklace of nooses.

Do you:

A) Congratulate them on their skill, but explain that in today's political climate, it would be best not to produce a model with such close symbolic ties to a still-active real-world terror group, or

B) Sign off on a production run of Space Klansmen?

If you picked A), congratulations! You have a better head for PR than Games Workshop.

You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.
