Title yes, ongoing no. It got its title on the very last page.

...I'm not sure how to feel about that.

Did the storyline at least get good at any point? Did it turn into an actual party?

Also, did the NP ever actually do anything?

...O.K. My memory is a bit fuzzy so...

A. If by "it turned into an actual party", you mean, everybody got down to actually have some fun (though I think that was also happening back then too), well, yes, it did.

B. By "something happening"...well, yes. We met Evil Grace and got her to be Good Grace again, got betrayed by somebody who we weren't surprised by, Susan enacted her plan to get around the powerlessness of the final cutscene and get to the max level, which actually worked...and then a magic horse came in to ruin everything. (Don't take the "ruin everything" statement so seriously.) Possible implication of the horse being Tedd's deadbeat mom, somebody named "Noriko" from what I've gathered from the main comic.

C. Here's the title for the arc. It's...not unfitting, even considering that it's supposed to be a spoiler for what happens in the arc. You were around to get the "magic mirror exploded" explanation, right? We're getting a two or three week hiatus for the main comic. Since it's going to be NP only until the end of March, I guess that means I can try to catch up (haven't gotten past "Grace's Birthday Party" yet, I've been busy with RWBY, just finished Volume One yesterday) in the meantime.

Maybe you can stay around for that?

I feel like my decision to drop this comic was a good one

Jokes aside, I'm glad that the story at least moved on a bit and advanced some stuff.

Not... entirely keen on the name for the storyline being revealed only at the end of it, two years later, as well as not being too keen on the sudden connection with the similarly long and faffy NP with that revelation at the end there, but oh well. It's on-brand for Shive, at least.

I have no comments on the magic dream unicorn. I mean, I do, but I don't want to be rude.

No offense to people who like it, but this has definitely moved away from my tastes.

There was never an implication that the unicorn ->stallion<- was was anyone other than he appeared to be, outside of a guess made when all we had to go on was a single speech bubble coming from off screen.

Now I'm curious. What brought you to the comic in the first place?

Edit: Also, it was meant to refer to my...live reactions from the depths of past El Goonish Shive, not the next storyline.

Honestly, I don't remember much? I think I just kinda stumbled onto the story due to Tv Tropes and started reading it. I liked a lot of the silly and the characters and all, but I dunno, these two storylines just moved way past the stuff I liked. It's become too much exposition and too much over the top goofiness, and that just kinda took the fun out of it for me. Plus some other minor stuff.

Last Saturday's NP and nobody bothered to post it?

Look, when your have a bit of a case of Only Six Faces hairstyles are important. It's like the whole audience has face blindness.

And in typical fashion, Shive is starting to lose the plot and lose track of whether things should be canon.

"Look, I have my kinks and this comic is basically a way to work through them that's also a fun piece of time-wasting. Don't question it."

Oh, this is becoming loony tunes.

I assume part-Cat forms are stronger because when they were first introduced Shive was still kinda-sorta writing EGS as a shounen pastiche, and turning part-cat was used to give Elliot - then way more of a shounen hero-type - a Power Level boost.

(Hey, remember the Tamashi Gekido? Damn, that's a throwback)

Though Shive doesn't really write the series like that any more (it's more urban fantasy now), being part-cat making Elliot stronger is still a thing that happened, so it makes sense if there was a point where Shive thought about it being a thing cat forms just do and went SureWhyNot.

(Spoilers for Fred) Now we also have Catalina’s cat form that grants a speed boost instead. It probably depends a lot on what cartoons the spellcaster watched as a kid.

It could be that Elliot’s cat form was just designed by Tedd to have more muscle so it may be a purely physical strength thing. Then when it became a spell form, that strength aspect was likely given a magic boost.

Truly the darkest timeline. It took me a few reads to realize it was him.

Um...good question. Kinda, yeah.

It kinda gets into that area of transgender dating stuff (would you be willing to date a woman with the physical body of a man) and that whole gender/sexuality spectrum that makes a big, fascinating mess of everything.

Mostly for me (because my knowledge of stuff to connect to the comic is limited, being where I am), it sparked a question about whether Ellen ever talked about if they're comfortable with being attracted to men, considering the TF Gun made Ellen bisexual as well.

She is, but much more attracted to women, and Shive only really brought it up like once.

Pretty sure that it’s been said that the heterosexual preference of the sex you get transformed into gets modded onto your original sexuality.

IE for example a straight man getting turned into a female form will also find males attractive while transformed, but a gay man given a female transformation would still just be attracted to dudes.

Although it sounds like Shive is taking a step back from that cos he realised it's a bit... iffy.
