Or maybe he thinks that Attack of the Cybermen was the height of the show's writing.

Okay, I may disagree with literally everything he says, but personal attacks are kind of uncalled for.

There are only two sides you can be on in relation to this show — either you hate it, or you're wrong.
... Is this his actual argument or...?

...I don't think I made a personal attack.

Did I?

...Sorry.

Gonna go back and delete it.

No, I read that. But I can't tell if he's serious about the "AGREE WITH ME OR YOU'RE WRONG" thing.

I'm only talking about the New Series. The Classic Series was always pitched at children. The New Series expanded this to teenagers and young adults.

If you want to know what I mean by "adult," consider two of the Christmas specials:

1) The Runaway Bride

2) The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe

The first is a Christmas episode, but features a giant spider trying to eat the human race and the Doctor committing genocide. The second has the power of Mummy's love solving all problems.

It's not over. Not yet.

[up][up]That first one sounds more like Kamen Rider or Power Rangers than Doctor Who. And I've got news for you.

To be fair, there was also "A Christmas Carol." Which had a pretty bittersweet ending and themes of parental abuse.

Also it had a Catherine Tate Show sketch character.

And the latter had the blitz.

And the next Christmas Special had snowmen that ate people, and children abused by their governess, and said governess "accidentally" falling in a lake and drowning and freezing to death.

...Also, I mean, Adam Todd Brown doesn't post in this thread, near as I can tell, so I think that means we can say whatever we want about him.

Same goes for Ian Levine.

The New Series expanded this to teenagers and young adults.

I mean, I liked the part where Tony Blair died, and some aliens made fun of the War on Terror, but otherwise, World War III/Aliens In London was kinda definitely for kids.

Another reason I hate Doctor Who.

I walk into the ABC/BBC shop and it's sickening the amount of stuff you can buy.

Which I actually liked. It's partway between the transition.

What did I do?

Also I'm guessing that article was written by Robert Brockway—no? Adam Tod Brown? Hrm. I don't remember him ever being this needlessly negative, but then his stuff has never stood out to me.

I think the fact that Medicus thinks an episode is adult and mature because it's got genocide (unquestioned genocide against kids, actually) and a monster trying to eat people tells me roughly all I want to know about him.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

C'mon, man. You can't really be ticked at merchandise. It's not like it hurts anything.

And if there's any show that has an excuse for tons of merchandise, it's this one IMHO.

And it's your fault for letting me know Shortpacked exists.

I am going to be perfectly honest here - neither of those sounds especially adult to me. Except possibly the genocide, and even then I felt like it was kind of glanced over. Just another stain of blood on the Doctor's hands.

C'mon, man. You can't really be ticked at merchandise. It's not like it hurts anything.
Except for the amount of money people waste on useless crap. Especially young adults and people in their twenties who really should know better.

And if there's any show that has an excuse for tons of merchandise, it's this one IMHO.
