• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Graf Johan von Leopold. Already considered a serious threat on Earth, but in Halkagenia, he's truly a force to be reckoned with. Most of its inhabitants, mage or otherwise, pose only the most infinitesimal threat to him, and even the most renowned mages in Tristain have to go all-out to even inconvenience him. Even Saito would have been killed were it not for Derflinger. Just about the only thing keeping him from being a threat nobody has any hope of defeating is the inherit limitations of jewel magic and his Geas making him incapable of killing females.
  • In Chapter 21, Saito mentions that he almost lost an arm when a fellow student hit him with a lightning spell. He would have lost it if not for the timely intervention of the Grandmaster. Did we mention he was twelve at the time?
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Quite a few of Louise and Saito's detractors have admitted to being won over by this fic's versions of them, thanks in large part to them getting the Adaptational Nice Guy treatment. Louise is nowhere near as abusive to Saito as she is in canon — at most, she gets a little snide when her Clingy Jealous Girl tendencies start acting up — and so her more likable side is far more prominent. Saito, meanwhile, is able to keep his perverted tendencies in check and behaves far more gentlemanly than he did in the original series.
