  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • At first, the two protagonists seem like they're just two modern-day people hanging out on a beach. But as time goes on, it becomes clear that they live here, and that they know almost nothing about the world. They don't know if there are rivers in the world aside from the one they can see, whether it rains on the sea, where the river goes or comes from, and so on. This lends a surreal and unsettling vibe to the story, as one must now wonder when and where the story is taking place, or if it's taking place on Earth at all. It is, but very, very far into the future.
    • The way the Beanie Leader speaks English (or whatever language English is standing in for). Her imperfect command of the language is shown with words and letters that are fuzzy, faded, corrupted, enlarged, reversed, rotated, shadowed, or overlapping each other, and sometimes so blotched (as if with spilled ink) that they're illegible; sometimes two words or phrases with similar meanings nearly overlap each other, as if she tried to say both at the same time. (Example.) It's hard not to imagine that it sounds like Black Speech.
    • The Beanie Leader's hair. All the other characters, including the other Beanie People, have pretty short hair. By contrast, her hair is very long and feathered, making her look like Sadako from The Ring.
    • When the two protagonists find out that their home is about to be destroyed by rising waters, and that they probably won't make it back in time to warn everyone.
    • "RUN"
  • Shocking Moments: Mostly the premise of giving a new frame of a story twice every hour. And again later, when what started out as an adventure story with only two characters turns into a story about the apocalypse thousands of years from now, with the Mediterranean Basin flooding again.
