YMMV / Weezer (The Teal Album)

Go To

  • Broken Base: Some fans see it as a fun Spin-Off album that isn't meant to be taken seriously while others call it a cynical cash grab to capitalize on the success of their "Africa" cover, citing it as the worst Weezer album since Raditude. Some resent it for overshadowing The Black Album which would come out a few months later only to flop.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Some fans don't consider Teal to be a "proper" Weezer album on the grounds that it consists solely of covers with no new original material.
  • Misblamed: Some blame the success of this album as negatively influencing The Black Album, arguing that Black was supposed to have a harder sound akin to Pinkerton going off of interviews that Rivers was writing Black to be "the darkest album since Pinkerton", and believe that their label made the band re-record the entire album to sound more like Teal after the success of "Africa" to capitalize on its success. That being said, there is no evidence to support this, and Rivers stated as far back as 2016 that Black would have synthesizers and less guitar.
