• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Everything about Yonder. From its unnatural look with endless identical and flawless toy-like houses, the fake sky with cotton ball clouds, making it liminal space nightmare to just look at (let alone imagining being stuck there forever) to the Nothing Is Scarier nature that makes it even scarier due to its mysterious origin and purpose.
  • When the boy is asked by Gemma to mimic the voice of the person he met, he starts to growl until his neck bulges out.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The film expresses how fruitless the main couple's efforts are at escaping their entrapment. By the time that something bad happens to them, the audience can hardly bother to care.
• The Woobie: Tom and Gemma, a perfectly nice and ordinary young couple who simply wanted to buy a home and start a family and yet find themselves in a truly hellish situation that only ends with their deaths.
