• Broken Base: The show's use of 21st-century music which was mostly pop, R&B, rock, and rap music. Some fans feel it gives otherwise quiet scenes a sense of pep or urgency while also giving the show a modern vibe; other fans feel it's anachronistic, annoyingly intrusive, and far too frequent.
• Moral Event Horizon: Tom Macon crosses it when he spares Sam, with whom he's had a relatively amicable relationship, from being crippled only to publicly lynch him and then deliver a pro-slavery speech to make himself look good to prospective supporters of his gubernatorial run.
