- Unintentional Period Piece: An important part of the villain's plot in A Purple Place for Dying involves a pair of lookalikes taking a flight on tickets bought under the names of the first two murder victims. While still plausible in 1964 when the book came out, less than a decade later airports had increased security to such a degree in response to frequent hijackings that this would've been impossible without a hell of a lot more effort and forged IDs.
- Values Dissonance: McGee expresses some opinions about homosexuals in One Fearful Yellow Eye that are pretty cringeworthy to read in the 21st century.
