- Broken Base: Some fans like the episode for Philip standing up for himself while others hate it for James Taking a Level in Jerkass.
- Catharsis Factor: After James bullying him for the whole episode, it is very satisfyting to see Phillip stand up to the red engine and call him out for his wrongdoings.
- Additionally, the other engines ensuring that James doesn't talk his way out of delivering garbage to the waste dump is a fitting comeuppance for his horrible behaviour in this episode.
- Karmic Overkill: Whether or not you like Phillip (especially considering how he caused Edward to move out of Tidmouth Sheds), James bullying him may come off as too excessive to count as a Take That, Scrappy!.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Fans who weren't pleased with James' portrayal felt that Diesel should've taken his role.
