YMMV / Theresia: Dear Emile

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Emile. Was she a remorseless psychopath with no morals who abused and tormented her adopted daughter since birth for her own twisted amusement? Or is Leanne correct in her belief that Emile could only express her feelings through violence and truly did love her in her own twisted fashion?
  • Character Development: Crosses into Fridge Brilliance and Gameplay-and-Story Integration territory. As mentioned in Trial-and-Error Gameplay, Leanne seems particularly more observant of potential traps than the doctor is. Not long after finding the first key and escaping the room she woke up in, Leanne finds herself in a small library and is given a vicious shock by an electrified door. It is here at this point that the game expects you, the player, to learn the lesson of checking everything before simply pressing on recklessly. How is this development? Upon regaining more memories, it becomes obvious that Leanne had a bad habit of thoughtlessly going along with what was said or asked of her, not considering the consequences of her actions. As the game progresses, it becomes obvious that part of Emile's reasoning behind lining the church and the base with so many traps was to encourage Leanne to think for herself and consider the consequences of her actions, especially the unpleasant ones borne of recklessly pressing onward.
