YMMV / The X-Files Miniseries E03 "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster"

• Base-Breaking Character: Anabella the transgender prostitute. While most fans agree that the episode is fantastic, her portrayal caused a serious split between whether she was hilarious and fun, or a mess indicative of Darin Morgan refusing to take trans issues seriously. Her not being played by a real trans person is also a big sticking point.
• Funny Moments: As par for the course for any Darin Morgan script, this one has gems:
  • The running gag over whether or not the lizard monster has three or two eyes.
  • Also the running gag that nearly every witness is on drugs.
  • Mulder breaking out his smartphone - which keen-eyed observers noted is years out of date - to take pictures of the monster instead of his gun, finally getting smart enough to document the moment. He still fails to get a good shot, instead setting his phone camera on video... and on selfie mode so that the only thing he does get is himself screaming. Again.
  • Mulder interrupting Scully's sleep by going on a non-stop rant about the case up to that point, not only throwing out his patented wacky theories but also tossing out the usual skeptical responses Scully would make. Poor Scully tries to, but Mulder jumps on them first, forcing her to just nod silently and smile more and more as Mulder finally gets his groove back.
    • "This is how I like my Mulder." Also doubles as a Heartwarming Moment 'cause it's Scully happy Mulder is getting his groove back.
    • "But first, we need to move out of this motel."
  • The entire scene with the psychiatrist about the role of monsters in the real world, and how he tries to give Mulder a prescription for his obvious obsession with monsters. And after Mulder leaves, the shrink downs the same pills he gave to the lizard monster who came to see him earlier.
    • His werewolf client is scheduled for Mondays. Wait, this episode aired on a Monday...
  • Mulder's entire interview with Guy Man(n) at the graveyard. Entirely upturning every concept of what it means to be human more than what it means to be a lizard.
  • It's not funny that Guy's best friend was killed by a Jackalope. It is funny that Guy's best friend - another lizard-man - was named George.
  • Scully's seduction of Guy at the phone store.
    • "THAT... Did. NOT. happen."
  • Scully does catch the Real Killer, who tries to start giving his Motive Rant before Scully interrupts him and shoves him out the door. "Wait, I had a speech ready..."
  • The fact that Scully straight-up steals a dog.
  • "Mulder, the internet is not good for you..."
