  • Informed Wrongness: Abe blames himself—and his family agrees that he should make amends—for the fact that Philip, the photographer at his modeling session, was fired for being gay. His entire role in the situation was to panic and leave before their shoot was over after the photographer believed he was coming on to him and gave him a kiss. He didn't tell on the man, and when he failed to collect his payment for the session the company somehow found out on their own what had happened. Even if the point is that Abe overreacted (something less likely to cross the audience's mind if Abe were a woman), Philip's action was unprofessional—in fact, upon hearing about it Marge's first assumption is that he was fired for kissing an employee with sexuality having nothing to do with it. (While it's clear that the company's treatment of Philip was motivated by homophobia rather than any concern about workplace harassment, as illustrated by the fact that the president of the company has been making inappropriate advances on his secretary with impunity since the '40s, it's interesting to note how differently that situation is handled, as we're meant to sympathize with the secretary getting revenge by secretly poisoning her boss's coffee, despite the fact that she's pretended to enjoy his come-ons.)
