YMMV / The Rise of the Unemployed Wise Man

Go To

  • Adorkable: Karna's eager-to-please attitude, immense enthusiasm about his efforts to be a good Demon General, and rather self-deprecating mentality combine to make him utterly precious.
  • Arc Fatigue: Plenty of readers found the "Vs. Dargaz" arc to be annoyingly tedious, as the level of Deus Exit Machina involved to keep Karna away and have any sort of stakes to the arc made everybody feel it was way too forced, and just wanted things to be over with so the story could get back to the fun and entertainment of Karna being obliviously and hilariously overpowered.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Adult demons nearly orgasming at the sight of a pre-pubescent 13-year-old because of a Charm spell? Gross. Mammon and Belphegor desperately trying to hide their Raging Stiffie while shouting at how pathetic the other demon is for it? Hilarious.
  • Moe: Karna is an utterly adorable little boy whose incredibly enthusiastic desire to please Cecilia and help his grandparents makes him extremely lovable. The fact he has Heroic Self-Deprecation, thinking there's no way he could be anybody truly special, further amplifies his huggability.
  • Squick: Karna has the lewd spirits use the Charm spell as a demonstration to Cecilia's inner circle, instantly giving almost everyone in the room a Raging Stiffie for him. Given that these demons are adults and Karna is only 13, this comes dangerously close to crossing certain lines.
