- Jerkass Woobie: Kathy is an alcoholic woman and abusive mother who treats her daughter very badly. It's hard to feel not sorry for her behavior (despite unexcusable) caused by an implied low self-esteem.
- Tearjerker:
- The scene with Kathy and Lizzy arguing and insulting each other is very hard to watch. Especially for those who live (or lived) in an abusive family.
- Despite her unexcusable behavior towards her daughter, Kathy has an internal bleeding and she sacrifices her life by diverting the monster towards her. Before she dies, Kathy apologises to Lizzy for what she's done to her by telling that she is the best thing in her life and would grow up to be a better person than she was. After exaling her last breath and dying, Lizzy breaks down in tears.
- The Woobie: Lizzy lives with Kathy, an alcoholic abusive mother who treats her very badly. This poor girl deserves a big hug.
