YMMV / The Iron Dragon's Daughter

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Jane is quite distraught to find Monkey and Ratsnickle, two fey who had made her life miserable, dead in her room.
  • Covers Always Lie: The original cover to this book features a very standard-looking dragon, with shiny green scales, crouched protectively over a sleeping young girl in the middle of a green wood. The dragon appears to be, at its largest, about the size of an elephant. Almost nothing about this cover is accurate to the characters or tone of the story. First, the title of this book is exact; the dragon is made of iron, and looks it, being in fact an entirely mechanical construct, just one that is sentient thanks to magitech. Second, it should be large enough for its abdominal cavity to house a pilot house big enough that Jane uses it as her apartment for a long while. Third, the dragon is not at all protective of Jane, beyond making sure Jane can do what it needs her to in order to be able to fly again. Fourth, at no point do they hang out in a green wood together. The only scene where the dragon isn't simply laying inert, seemingly "dead" (while repairing itself) is the finale.
