  • The first chapter of the manga doesn't hold back on making it clear that Evris' life has not been an easy one regardless of being a Duke's daughter. In fact, it makes it clear that having noble blood has caused her great trouble. Due to being in nobility, she gained magic like others, but unlike others, she had dark magic which ostracized her due to people believing her magic was evil. Her father and half-siblings looked down at her for being an illegitimate child. She only had one friend, Lillian, who ended up betraying her and played an unspecified role in her engagement to Prince Mark to be annulled. Then, the Prince himself attempted to force her into becoming his servant due to his distaste for her. If it hadn't been for Ciel's intervention, Evris would potentially have either ended up on the streets or in Prince Mark's servitude.
  • In the second chapter, it is revealed that Ciel believes her existence robbed her brother of his rightful light magic, and she blames herself for him being exiled. She sees crossdressing and taking her brother’s place as her ‘atonement’ for something she had no control over.
