- Harsher in Hindsight: When Superman rejects the Sword's power, he is told his future renown has been assured. However, DC published the final tales of the Pre-Crisis Superman only two years later. Taking DC Comics Presents #97 as the ending, his history ended with Argo City destroyed, Metropolis littered with Kryptonian corpses and chunks of Kryptonite, and Mr. Mxyzptlk becoming a god and getting away with everything. Taking Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? as the definitive ending it was meant to be, Superman loses most of his friends and lives an anonymous life after being depowered and declared dead.
